When weighing up the opposition I tend to see if they have goalscorers in their team;
(League only) Rochdale: Ian Henderson, 15 goals Gillingham: Tom Eaves, 15 goals Plymouth: Freddie Ladapo, 12 goals Walsall: Andy Cook, 11 goals Oxford: James Henry, 10 goals Southend: Simon Cox, 10 goals Bradford: Jack Payne, 9 goals Accy: Sean McConville, 8 goals
I know they got into the position they are now in with these goalscorers, but if you have one of those in your team you will always have a chance imo, especially if it goes down to the wire.
Meanwhile,
Bristol Rovers: Ollie Clarke, 5 goals
Interestingly apart from Nichols, there haven't been any standouts in the assists list either.

Form table (last 8 matches) Current form - last 8 games. You look at this and think this is optimistic and then I noticed we've still got to play all the other 9 teams here GP W D L GF GA GD Pts 1 Barnsley 8 6 2 0 19 6 +13 20 2 Scunthorpe 8 6 1 1 11 5 +6 19 3 Luton Town 8 5 3 0 17 5 +12 18 4 Plymouth 8 5 2 1 13 7 +6 17 5 Doncaster 8 4 2 2 19 11 +8 14 6 Bristol Rovs 8 3 4 1 10 6 +4 13 7 Blackpool 8 3 4 1 8 4 +4 13 8 Charlton 8 3 3 2 9 6 +3 12 9 Sunderland 8 2 6 0 8 6 +2 12 10 Fleetwood 8 3 3 2 10 9 +1 12

I’ve been to Pompey 5times, never seen a win, think we drew 2-2 once Pompey's form has dipped since Ben Thompson was recalled by Millwall, so hopefully our new improved away form will be enough to bring the points home

I think we'll fall short of the so called magical 50pts.id expect 14ish based on those fixtures and being a slight pessimist.
Cannot see us building a gap or any kind of breathing space at all

I agree. Gonna have to start bringing a spare pair of pants to the games.

Apart from Plymouth virtually all those teams are on a shocking run of form, perhaps their top scorers have all lost form so nobody's is scoring goals for them, whereas we have a few players who can score the odd goal.

That seems an odd time to raise a thread specifically referring to us when it was played last Boxing Day.Walsall were total dogshit on the day so any excuse for their performance is a straw worth clutching at I suppose.Their fans seem to have given up the ghost re staying up,like Shrewsbury,Rochdale and Gills, only natural when your team is in a rut of poor form. Also,we found the time to be 2 goals up in 10 minutes even though we ‘time wasted’ from minute 1.Jokers. Just came across the thread last night when I was looking to say what their fans were saying after they lost to bottom of the table Wimbledon. Some were suggesting John Ward might be their saviour! I guess sacking their manager could be the last throw of the dice for them.

We are where we are through lack of goals though. If we are looking for an Andy Rammell moment who in our team can be a matchwinner? I cant think of too many.

If ever there was a time we needed Nichols to start scoring then this is it. Having said that if he keeps setting them up then it means someone’s scoring so I suppose that’s all that matters.

Would go JCH and Nicho and freshen it up second half, with the Sunderland game in mind we need 4 points,UTG.

JCH to the rescue !! Do you think he'll start at Pompey ? We need more of a physical presence up front. Maybe if JCH bullies the defenders a bit it will leave opportunities for others

Maybe if JCH bullies the defenders a bit it will leave opportunities for others Think JCH needs to work on his fitness - he held the ball up well but didn't look quick at all when travelling with the ball. for an away game, think we'r better off with Reilly (or even Jakubiak) and Nicho. May also depend on how big a threat Pompey would be from free kicks and corners.

Looking at our remaining fixtures I can only see us getting to 49 points we have too many hard games and too many at grounds where we usually struggle. Unless we get some wins on the board we are down draws are simply not good enough.

Turn just one game you've forecast as a draw or loss into a win and it's 51 or 52 pts, you can't say we'll go down basically on one result you've forecast, plus 49 pts maybe enough this season given there's around 10 teams in the fight.
