I think lockyer has been outstanding this season despite his obvious weakness in distributing the ball. Craig has been decent but i would think him being here next season would depend on him accepting a reduced salary contract offer. Nobody knows what coughlan will do or what division we will be in never mind what budget will be available. ...or even, if we are relegated, if it will be Coughlan making those decisions.

Puts a reality to our position. God I hope we can pull clear early and not have us biting our nails in the Barnsley game

We wouldn’t even be talking about our defence, if we had “One” game changer. But we haven’t. In fact, we haven’t got a single player I’d pay to watch. But there in my blood.

I think Alfie K will be around the squad next season. Manages to get goals as well.

Agree about a game change, certainly someone who will conure something out of nothing. Think Bodin was the last one we had where there was a real air of anticipation when he picked up the ball.

Keep Craig as cover/defensive coach, and sign a tall dominant left-footed centre half as well, in the Flint/Sonny Bradley mould.
All going well with us staying up, adding effectively to this base back 4/5 would be very strong in L1.
Bonham (New GK as cover / Andre Jr)
New right back (J.Clarke as cover) Lockyer (Menayese as cover) New centre back (Craig as cover) Holmes-Dennis (Kelly as cover)
With Smith, Slocombe, Leadbitter and Partington departing, should leave us much better off financially as well.

True but surely that's our position. As soon as we get / develop a game changer they are sold / head hunted, and we are back to where we started (or worse)

Just to confirm, as I may have read that wrong, you don't go and watch the Gas anymore? Or are you saying that as Rovers are in the blood, you go anyway?

Not quite sure that with agent fees, transfer fees and replacing players with better players and hence a higher wage demand, that works out better for us. Especially as reducing the squad by 2 we'd have available cover with injuries?

Especially as reducing the squad by 2 we'd have available cover with injuries? Hopefully we could pick up some good free transfers. If we followed the above plan we’d have 4 centre backs and 4 full backs, with Craig and Locks also able to play in the fullback positions (not ideal) and J.Clarke able to play CB feel that’s more than enough squad depth for L1. Appreciate if we go into the market agent fees and transfer fees could see us worse off financially especially as we won’t get a six figure fee for any of the 4 that could be leaving.

Haven't the days of free transfers long gone with any player in demand wanting a decent signing on fee/contract plus if we promote the likes of Mayo from the DS I assume they'll want a decent pay rise. I'm not really sure there are any obvious players we can offload w/o paying similar money to get replacements in apart from releasing one of the goalies, I can't see how we can expect AJR to step up to reserve goalie, on Tuesday night we only had 6 subs on the bench and we've hardly got an injury crisis any suspensions.

I don’t think Locks will stay as he’s our highest paid player in the club, I think for budget and value for money we can do better. His contract was loaded with bonus’s and a change once he became a international, he’s got a wise agent.
