What did Wael have to say? Very positive and upbeat and I wouldn’t repeat what he said if anything but to be honest he was very professional, you have to be in his position. I’ve known Wael for awhile now, he’s a decent guy and I believe the club is in safe hands with him. I think a lot of people in the near future will genuinely say fair play to the man. I invited a very prominent person from this forum last night who at times has been a critic of our board who had a good chat with Wael, say what you want he doesn’t hide from people. More to the point did he buy you a beer ?

As it is voted by the players it would be more appropriate to call the award clubman of the year as it doesn't just reflect on performances on the pitch. Player of the year award should be the fans vote only.

As it is voted by the players it would be more appropriate to call the award clubman of the year as it doesn't just reflect on permanence on the pitch. Player of the year award should be the fans vote only. Absolutely. The correct categories that more or less cover it all: Player of the Year (Management & Fans vote) Players player (Self explanatory) Clubman of the year (Management/Players/Club officials and employees vote) Goal of the season (Fans Vote) No doubt Ollie is most likely life and soul of the dressing room & training pitch, his off field work for the club admirable but on the pitch less than impressive this time around. Clubman Award should be the one presented here.

I wonder if we're being a bit harsh on Ollie here?
I'll be honest. He wouldn't be my choice as player of the year, although after 10 games of the seasom he was right up there. However, he has been voted Player of the Year by his fellow professionals. Not clubman, not all round good egg, bit Player of the Year. That is for his on field performances and nothing else.
So, anyone criticising the award, has anyone stopped to consider that maybe, just maybe, professional footballers understand the game better than any of us do?
As I say, I would have voted for someone else (Lockyer, Craig or James Clarke probably), but I recognise that the players' opinions on this subject are far more worthy than mine.
Well done Ollie.

Not gonna disrespect ollie, because he genuinely cares about his club, and has had some great performances for us. But not very many this season, even ollie himself, must have been suprised ??

Good post. Congratulations to all the winners. I suppose most clubs that are in a relegation fight will not have many players who’ve had a good season so it will always be a bit contentious. And it is a players award who know more than us. UTG!

A brilliant night, get all the facts Topper mate!. He won the award which was voted by his fellow players. They see what he does for the team on the pitch, off it in the changing room and also in training. A great night, well organised and 77 tables in attendance and them all full. Well done Bristol Rovers tonight, well done Ollie Clarke and thank you Wael Al Qadi for spending so long talking to our table. TBF to the questioners, it was not clear until the report went up on the website, which BTW contained some mistakes as well. Might be a brilliant night for you but not quite for everyone.

As voted by the players, who fortunately appreciate Ollie Clarke’s efforts more than some fans. Well done Ollie 👏

Literally could not care less who won what. Still 15 points to play for and we might need as many as seven of them to be safe from relegation....
....and I know the club organises this at this point for corporate/sponsorship reasons and we're all talking about it, but who will care who won player of the season if we don't get three points at home to the bottom of the league club on Saturday...?

I think the whole idea behind the evening was to allow fans, players, Management to have a chance to enjoy the Club.

I'm Just wondering if Ollie has been 100% fit all season, Maybe a injury or illness is still not 100% sorted. Whenever he comes off the field he is always blowing out of his arse as if he is not quite 100% match fit

He's been crap for the last 2 months or so He’s been poor since the Blackpool game where he set up three goals but was definitely one of our better players up until then.

I like Ollie and think he gets some undue stick. He is our hardest tackling midfield player and has a powerful shot from distance. I do accept that he has had some bad games this season but in his defence the rest of the team do virtually nothing to help him out. So many times I hear supporters screaming at him when he loses possession or makes a bad pass but in a great number of those occasions he's been stitched up by a team mate, such as :-
- They have passed to him in a last ditch effort to keep possession as they are under pressure themselves, and Ollie is the only one that has made himself available, and left him with no onward pass meaning he is left to hold onto the ball for as long as he can (and risk getting robbed) or pass into space just to avoid giving up immediate possession. - They pass to him under pressure and he has no forward pass cos our players just stand still and offer nothing. Whatever happened to "pass and move". Too many times our players make a pass and believe that their job is done for the next minute or so and it's now someone else's responsibility.
Too many times our players like to stand and watch whilst at the same time expecting the player with the ball to go on a mazy run through the opposition midfield/defence and slot the ball into the net. Look at the better teams that have visited the Mem this season. They play neat football, keep the ball moving, players always looking for the spaces, players knowing where team mates will be on the pitch so a long ball will always land reasonably close to them rather than land in no man's land. It's what sets the good teams apart from the likes of us.
It's all about personal opinions and perceptions but I do wonder sometimes whether people are actually seeing things differently to me or just like to moan at absolutely everything.
Rant over.

My son and I were lucky enough to be a guest at a table with one of the 1883 Club sponsors and have to say it was a very good evening.
The players were all friendly, the food was excellent and given the season we've had it all went really well.
