My son and I were lucky enough to be a guest at a table with one of the 1883 Club sponsors and have to say it was a very good evening. The players were all friendly, the food was excellent and given the season we've had it all went really well. Which was the whole point of the evening yes? I would say so yes. It's a chance to enjoy the football without the football, for sponsors to have a jolly and for a bit of recognition for some the youngsters at the club and the community team. I will say, that the most enjoyable part of the evening for me was Adam Tutton. What a passionate, considerate and caring man. An absolute credit to the Community team and the Club.

On the face of it ,Ollie winning player of the year seems a bit strange, just goes to show that the criteria used by professional people in these votes is vastly different to that used by the likes of users of this forum and fans in general, any way good luck to him ,hope it inspires him to a man of the match performance v Bradford , creating and scoring in a vital victory, come on Rovers!

Fully deserved, well done Ollie. I thought the 2 Clarkes had a very good first half of the season. but in recent months Ollie has looked off the pace whereas Craig and Locks have really improved. Think it was a difficult choice as you can't pick JCH over 10 games.

He won the award which was voted by his fellow players. They see what he does for the team on the pitch, off it in the changing room and also in training. A great night, well organised and 77 tables in attendance and them all full. Well done Bristol Rovers tonight, well done Ollie Clarke and thank you Wael Al Qadi for spending so long talking to our table. What did Wael have to say? Oh no, don't ask that question.

Scoopbydoogas,
"I like Ollie and think he gets some undue stick. He is our hardest tackling midfield player and has a powerful shot from distance. I do accept that he has had some bad games this season but in his defence the rest of the team do virtually nothing to help him out. So many times I hear supporters screaming at him when he loses possession or makes a bad pass but in a great number of those occasions he's been stitched up by a team mate, such as :-
- They have passed to him in a last ditch effort to keep possession as they are under pressure themselves, and Ollie is the only one that has made himself available, and left him with no onward pass meaning he is left to hold onto the ball for as long as he can (and risk getting robbed) or pass into space just to avoid giving up immediate possession. - They pass to him under pressure and he has no forward pass cos our players just stand still and offer nothing. Whatever happened to "pass and move". Too many times our players make a pass and believe that their job is done for the next minute or so and it's now someone else's responsibility.
Too many times our players like to stand and watch whilst at the same time expecting the player with the ball to go on a mazy run through the opposition midfield/defence and slot the ball into the net. Look at the better teams that have visited the Mem this season. They play neat football, keep the ball moving, players always looking for the spaces, players knowing where team mates will be on the pitch so a long ball will always land reasonably close to them rather than land in no man's land. It's what sets the good teams apart from the likes of us.
It's all about personal opinions and perceptions but I do wonder sometimes whether people are actually seeing things differently to me or just like to moan at absolutely everything.
Rant over" Firstly Congratulations to ALL who won awards whether or not I agree with them is neither here nor there. You have pretty well answered your own question in the first line where you say that you like Ollie Clarke because everything you have put as an excuse could just as easily apply to Ed Upson or Ogogo but people who don't like them will choose to ignore that. Football is all about opinions and I am guilty of the same things as are most others. Personally I wouldn't be too disappointed if we got rid of most of our midfielders and started again in the summer. The essential thing is that whoever we sign it is just as important to have balance with sufficient wide men. Personally I couldn't care less who wins awards as long as after the game against Barnsley we are outside the bottom four. UTG

Agree very much with this Steve. This is why we are a long way from being a top 6 team. Hopefully, GC can add some more energy and flair to our midfield.

Everything in Steve's post in between the quote marks (starting with 'I like Ollie' and ending with 'Rant over') is my post from the previous page. But thanks for agreeing with me

Ahhh what! How many Mom awards has ollie had? How many Bonham? Who gets to vote, and do they attend matches? Its questionable if the players have turned up for some games to be fair.

Adam Tutton left a warm feeling amongst those sat on our table. Very impressive. We had three sponsors on our table and all were disappointed that the Commercial Director, Chairman and President all failed to present plans for the club both structurally and commercially to encourage them to invest further. What an opportunity with so much wealth in one room/tent.

Not gonna disrespect ollie, because he genuinely cares about his club, and has had some great performances for us. But not very many this season, even ollie himself, must have been suprised ?? I'm Just wondering if Ollie has been 100% fit all season, Maybe a injury or illness is still not 100% sorted. Whenever he comes off the field he is always blowing out of his arse as if he is not quite 100% match fit could be, he certainly could never be faulted for effort, always 100%. 👍🏽

But to me I expect players to come off the pitch “blowing out of their asses,” I want them to have left everything on the pitch. Those who come off as good as when they went on to it could be said to have not given 100%. Whenever I’ve seen Ollie I’ve had no doubt he gives everything. Whilst not the most talented I’ve always seen Ollie give everything. So I’m happy for him to get this recognition. UTG

The lad is an absolute credit to the quarters and I’m delighted he has won this award.
