LAW12 - FIFA Interpretation
Careless means that the player has shown a lack of attention or consideration when making his challenge or that he acted without precaution: no further disciplinary sanction is needed if a foul is judged to be careless
Reckless means that the player has acted with complete disregard of the danger to, or consequences for, his opponent: a player who plays in a reckless manner shall be cautioned
Using excessive force means that the player has far exceeded the necessary use of force and is in danger of injuring his opponent: a player who uses excessive force shall be sent off
I can see that Danny Leadbitter's challenge was careless. I might concede that it could be interpreted as reckless, but how does any referee that has any understanding of the game interpret that challenge as using excessive force?
I would usually say that it is a waste of time for the club to appeal a red card, but in this case, I cannot see why we would not. To make such a game changing decision as a sending off a referee has to be certain. I wouldn't trust this one with the added time board, let alone controlling a game.

From the Blackthorn, I thought it was just a good solid 50-50, but those nearer were very worked up, so I wasn't sure. Seeing the highlights, I still can't see that Leadbitter went in with feet up, although the commentator seems to think it criminal. Reckless, maybe...
Not the worst decision of the afternoon though.

i honestly dont think the sending was game changing,we ran forest green ragged 2nd half even with 10 men,,,game changer for me was martin, taylor, cunnington, harrison and trotman missing good chances,,,hopefully youtube highlights will give a better view of the leadbitter tackle.

Definite yellow, never a red.
The FA should deffo investigate both refs as some of the off the ball stuff going on was shocking.

Their player went in two footed, Dan won the ball. It was the over the top reaction from their player & then his team mates that got him sent off. I suspect we will get nothing from an appeal, we seem to be a marked team in the eyes of the officials of this league.
Sour grapes, just maybe. How was the slap head not booked for those two fouls in less than two minutes in the first half?

I knew a Saints fan that was there on Saturday and from an impartial view, he seemed to think the red card was fair although I can't say I really agree even after watching the highlights.
How some of the other stuff went unpunished though is a mystery.

My initial thought was a red but there were worse decisions. Such as a bad foul by one of their players in the highlights which was at least a yellow and not even a free kick awarded.

The only reckless thing to do with that challenge was Leadbitter's first touch... worth a red alone!

Definite yellow, never a red. The FA should deffo investigate both refs as some of the off the ball stuff going on was shocking. The Non League paper begs to differ - they gave the ref 7 out of 10! Mind you, they dont seem to rate the Gas - we rarely get a star rating greater than 2 out of 5 for our games.

The ref was the worse I have ever seen in my life though.
