Quite a few of the current team were involved in the first 21 games. Yeah, exactly, and GC knew which ones he wanted to keep and which ones to send to Swindon.

Bennett can go. Too lightweight. Not good enough for Portsmouth but good enough for us, another average player, and we have too many of them

Personally, I'd like to have Kyle Bennett back for next season. We've been playing safety first football since Graham Coughlan took over and it (looks as if) it has done a fantastic job in turning round what would have been a disastrous season. I also accept KB was less effective for us for the first half of the season, but we've lacked the creativity that he showed in his first 6 months with the club. His first touch and ability to wrong foot defenders is better than anyone else at the club and almost on a par with Billy Bodin. I'll accept he lacks physical stature and that is a major element in this division, but I think if we want to mount a challenge we need the guile that KB can bring. I also trust in the chance that our coaching staff can accentuate the positive elements of his game.
Just to add that Kyle was trying to find Payne with his final ball on most occasions, no wonder he wasn't successful.
Might be another kettle of fish with JCH leading the line.

It seems Swindon are keen to sign Kyle but our manager appears keen on kerping him here next season, I cerainly hope so. In my opinion Kyle is the clubs most skilldul player who can make things happen, I believe he will make things happen and with JCH up front we could be quite a handful next season. Clearly a talented, skilful player but flatters to deceive too often with little/no end product - probably why Portsmouth were so keen to get rid of him. There should be plenty of other wide men available in the summer and if rumours of his wages are correct we could do with freeing up funds. Agree with this, good player on his day but according to HITC he’s our highest earner on 4K a week. Think the money would be better spent elsewhere, could probably tempt at least 2 non league wingers with that money and hope one of them comes good.

I have a theory about graham coughlan which might be unfair on certain players.
It goes like this bennett, lines, payne, broadbent = bad attitude Leadbitter, matthews, mensah = mentally weak
Solution do not play them regardless of pure footballing ability.

JJOT out of contract in June. Just sayin'. I know this is a joke but if that ever happened then I would never watch this club again. In fact, if it did..then I would also scrub my balls in petrol, drink a pint of vinegar, smell a City fans boxers, and have sex with Theresa May - Twice! Trying to enjoy her lying grey bush and all.

I'd have him back no problem if he was the right age - probably a bit old for us now? i still don't know what he did that was so wrong to provoke such hatred from some of our supporters? He was the only player to score a significant number of goals for a team heading for relegation and did enough to get in the PFA team of the year. There were plenty of players in that side (and Ward) who did little to keep us up and deserve a share of the flak. This stuff about downing tools has become a bit of an urban myth.

Mate, I like most of your posts but... What he did that was so wrong imo was when we needed a squad with everyone together he caused mayhem in April 14. His newspaper interview probably upset a lot of the squad. DC was a young manager just starting and JJOT gave him a few headaches when he should have been focusing on other things. Was at Pompey when the **** hit the fan and he was left out. Just felt that JJOT thought it was all about him rather than the club. Perhaps he’d have got away with it if we’d stayed up but because we went down the feelings are a bit more extreme than they might have been. Yes he was a good player in a certain formation, he was a goal scorer and he was in the PFA team of the year but so was Michael Smith. And you are right about there were others who were just as bad but they weren’t as capable as he was and there was a feeling that had he played as well as he had been we’d have stayed up. But, perhaps best not to open the can of worms that is JJOT. It’s been done to death many times and apologies if I’ve done that. Best to move on. UTG! ps I also think, but haven’t checked, that we had a third player in the PFA team that year but may be wrong. Even if we didn’t to have had two players in the PFA team and still go down just shows how awful most of the others were. Bonkers.

Incredibly disappointing signing was Kyle. Never lived up to the hype. Can’t imagine he’s on small wedge either. Was never a fan, even when he scored a few end of last season they were usually all scuffed 😂

I worked in a shop in town at the time he was here and a fellow colleague of mine who also was a Rovers fan asked for his signature for his son when the Tool came in one day.The attitude that prick the Tool gave him was disguting. He was on the phone after shouting in public " I aint walking all the Dam way up park street.. if he wants it he meets me on the harbour side"👎 I also once saw the Tool getting into a punch up outside a night club at the bottom of Park street near collage green, which from what I remember looked like there was a few other members of the sqaud that took out of of the league involved also...😠😳 When we lost to Mansfield Steve Yates came out behind the blackthrone almost in tears and was asked by fans about the Tool and he pretty much said he didnt give a f**k and had already left the ground. From what I remember it had kicked off between him and fans after the game also. He was a vile person while here and I remember his interview where he said he was going to play in the premiership and you could tell then he didnt give a loss about us at all. He was a L2 player that had a super goal scoring run that season. He was the best player in our worst ever side in our history. ( Apart from Brown and maybe smith) and his attitude didnt help. I dont hate any former player of ours, but I would have the Snake back in a heartbeat over Tool even after what did.. I never want to see that Tool in the quaters again.

Not really sure what's going with Lines this season but Benett, Payne & Broadbent simply weren't good enough, Payne's still proving that at Shrewsbury and TB is apparenlty out of the Swindon side due to "personal problems". Matthews & Mensah have had to drop down to National League level to get some game time and Leads has only just returned from another op so can hardly be "mentally weak". I'm not sure why you've got an obvious agenda against a manager when he seems to have kept us in Div 1 for another season.

I just happen to think it's a load of Chinese whispers and myths around O'Toole. I'm not going to say he's a great human being as I have no idea what he was like off the pitch - all I know is I saw a player doing his bit on the field and the manager and most other players letting us down. I'm pretty sure DC said he wanted him to stay after relegation and didnt have a problem with him but he had a get out clause (wise agent!) and chose to remain in the football league. As far as I remember is was just O'Toole and Smith in the PFA team of the year - quite an achievement for the second worst team in the league. Like you say it's been done to death and not worth debating further. Would rather look forward to a nice win in the sunshine tomorrow!!!
