I'd have him back no problem if he was the right age - probably a bit old for us now? i still don't know what he did that was so wrong to provoke such hatred from some of our supporters? He was the only player to score a significant number of goals for a team heading for relegation and did enough to get in the PFA team of the year. There were plenty of players in that side (and Ward) who did little to keep us up and deserve a share of the flak. This stuff about downing tools has become a bit of an urban myth. I worked in a shop in town at the time he was here and a fellow colleague of mine who also was a Rovers fan asked for his signature for his son when the Tool came in one day.The attitude that prick the Tool gave him was disguting. He was on the phone after shouting in public " I aint walking all the f**king way up park street.. if he wants it he meets me on the harbour side"👎 I also once saw the Tool getting into a punch up outside a night club at the bottom of Park street near collage green, which from what I remember looked like there was a few other members of the sqaud that took out of of the league involved also...😠😳 When we lost to Mansfield Steve Yates came out behind the blackthrone almost in tears and was asked by fans about the Tool and he pretty much said he didnt give a f**k and had already left the ground. From what I remember it had kicked off between him and fans after the game also. He was a vile person while here and I remember his interview where he said he was going to play in the premiership and you could tell then he didnt give a loss about us at all. He was a L2 player that had a super goal scoring run that season. He was the best player in our worst ever side in our history. ( Apart from Brown and maybe smith) and his attitude didnt help. I dont hate any former player of ours, but I would have the Snake back in a heartbeat over Tool even after what did.. I never want to see that Tool in the quaters again. That first story doesn't make much sense. He was asked to give an autograph to a kid, which he agreed to do, and was then asked if he'd mind walking from the harbour side to the top of Park Street in order to sign? I think I too might be telling said autograph hunters to do one if that's what they expect.

The mass brawl also sounds a bit iffy - is anything like this involving footballers ever going to stay out of the media? I can't remember hearing anything at the time. If it did then at least it showed O'Toole had some friends if he was out with other members of the squad and perhaps wasn't the unliked loner which is commonly portrayed!

The fans were looking for someone to blame that season, and, wrongly imo, JJOT got the full force.

Im not going to go on the defensive as I saw it with my own eyes so I know its the truth. It wasnt a "mass brawl" tho... it was just him and a few others being pushed away after a few punches thrown towards each other.Nothing major just watered up idiots like any saturday night.

That’s the view of Swindon Town midfielder Kyle Bennett – who was voted Town’s player of the match on Monday as Richie Wellens’ side were booed off the field following a 2-1 home defeat to Crewe Alexandra. Bennett, 28, is one of two players in Town’s current squad that can call the Town boss a former team mate having played with the 39-year-old at Doncaster Rovers four seasons ago. Wellens stated after Monday’s performance that he will be ruthless this summer, and not hold back from completely overhauling the club’s current squad. While Bennett takes motivation from individual discussions, he believes a change in upbringing for the new generation of footballers is making it increasingly hard for managers to be blunt but true with players when performance levels need improving. He said: “Since I’ve been playing, culture has changed a little bit. “You can’t be as honest with players, because people don’t take it the right way. When I was coming through as a young player, it was a bit more ruthless and players didn’t take criticism personally. “You could say things to players and not get a certain reaction – players then would just get on with it and do things for the better. “We need to address that, have a good pre-season and get fitter – because there is no doubt that we have the talent to get out of this league. “In previous years, you had some horrible people playing – not as people but when they crossed that white line. “They’re not going out to hurt, but they want to win. I’m not saying we don’t have winners in this team, but we need to drag that winning mentality out of a few players.” Bennett – who will remain at Town until the end of the season – said his teammates were caught out by Crewe’s game plan and deserved to end the 90 minutes pointless. The former Portsmouth man pinned a below-par work ethic throughout the game did little to help Town’s cause. He added: “Crewe have come with a game plan, and it was a bit unexpected. We allowed them to play better than they are, and what they did to us is what we’re used to doing to teams. “It’s frustrating, I don’t think the work ethic was there like it has been in the last few weeks during the first half. “We came in at half time and the manager gave us a rocket, and rightly so. We had a better second half, we pressed them harder and forced them into mistakes which is how we got back into the game. “We couldn’t find equaliser, but looking at the game we definitely didn’t deserve to win it.”

Just read the "comments" and not one fan as a bad word to say about him, I wonder if they will still be as positive by next January. Its frustrating how a player with his obvious ability showed no interest in using it this season.

That sounds like he plans to stay at Swindon ...... A decent player for us at times, not sure I buy into to there being a lack of effort on his part, perhaps a loss of form combined with not really fitting into the way we were setting up. No doubt there is talent there and Swindon will have a good signing if they keep him.

My own opinion is that bennett struggled with some of the things dc asked him to do. Like playing on the right as well as a couple of outings at wingback, for me he is a right footed left winger and thats it. He also gets involved in silly niggles with opponents, referees and even team mates which unlike some players has a detrimental effect on his game. Despite all that i always thought he was trying his best and was easy to find with a pass.

I don't watch Jeremy Kyle. You don`t know what you`re missing. There was a brilliant episode last week. "Is my boyfriend nobbing the window cleaner?" Class.

I actually think he probably makes a good point in the article.
Regarding him staying, only if we're in L2. He's a good proven L2 winger, but not sure he's good enough for L1

With a proper striker who can link and get on the end of stuff (which we now have), he would be an asset to us, hopefully still in Div1. Lets be fair the Shrewsbury lad, Payne with Nicholls was not the best combo to try and link play. In fact effin impossible!

That sort of wage could be put towards a top striker or creative centre midfielder.

More like they'll offer to pay £2K p.w. with us having to contribute the rest to get him off the books. As far as the other poster saying KB's a proven Div 2 winger, KB spent most of his career in the Championship/Div 1 before he moved to Pompey in Div 2 for just a couple of seasons.

I wouldn't want to pay him that based on his level of performance with us, however, if he's played really well, chipped in with goals and assists and is well liked by Swindon fans then you never know? Despite him being under contract we surely wouldn't expect a fee so they may pay more wages than they would fine someone they paid a fee for?
