I’d love it if most of them came off altogether and then followed by other celebs! Id love social media to take a battering as it’s the biggest waste of human time ever invented!

Thing is Social Media don't react and if they do not quick enough. Watched a programme on Dispatches last year called Inside Facebook where a reporter secretly infiltrated the monitoring team of the regulators who look at material that has been reported. This included bullying and harassment and physical abuse and to my valuing system was appalling what some people believe is ok and acceptable to leave in a public domain. As for the FA it's been proven racial and sexual abuse has been rife in the higher echelons so I'm not surprised players have had to take a stance themselves as they must feel badly let down by our authorities. It's all lips service in my book and I would also love to see a team walk off the pitch

You can’t police the internet. Tweeting and Facebook all that bollocks leaves you open to reaction from the world. The way I see it is if you go in there people will offend you so if you don’t like it then don’t go on there.

Controversial (offensive, abusive, racist etc) comments on social media, especially ones that hit the news, drive people to social media sites. It ain’t in their interests to remove the comments.

People think and say social media is bad but it’s purely documented. This sh** goes down all the time in the real world but because it’s gone as soon as it leaves the mouth there is no way of quantifying it. It’s a sign of a much more deep rooted problem that exists day in day out in our lives.

I hardly ever watch the news because its dominated with brexit news and how our government have f**ked it up and f**ked over the majority of our population. I know it’s there , I know it’s happening , it’s not for me , so I avoid it most of the time.

Really don’t agree with the whole ‘if you don’t like it don’t look’. By this logic you’re essentially blaming the players who use social media for being racially abused / suggesting they restrict their own behaviour because someone is racially abusing them. Very weird point of view.
For those who don’t use or understand social media, if you go down your local pub and someone starts racially abusing you, do you really think it’s your responsibility to not go to the pub anymore? Or do you think the individual who is racially abusing you should be removed from the pub?
Not a hard question and not hard to understand if you ask me, unless like you’d like to sweep the problem under the carpet.

Or do you think the individual who is racially abusing you should be removed from the pub? Not a hard question and not hard to understand if you ask me, unless like you’d like to sweep the problem under the carpet. I completely understand your argument but feel that the comparison between the pub and social media is not the same. Completely agree about the pub and not ceasing to go because it should be the perpetrator who is punished. But on social media these people are sometimes anonymous or hiding behind a username and they do the damage before anyone can do anything about it. I think a better analogy is the idea of perhaps most people will avoid dangerous areas of a city or town at night because they know it’s dangerous. Now you could argue why should I avoid those areas when I want to go there, it should be the people who make it dangerous that are removed to make it a safe area. It’s not right but common sense tells you just don’t go there. So I can understand the argument that if you don’t like what you see on SM or the values some seem to spout then don’t go on it, avoid it. By doing so you are in no way sweeping it under the carpet, you are just making a personal choice about how you use your time, enjoyably or not. SM has given a voice to many people who years ago never had one in a public way. Unfortunately there are as many people with strange ideas now as there were then, only now they have a platform. And until governments make it clear that extreme views will be punished severely and platforms will be banned, taken down or something else nothing will happen. I don’t use social media unless you call this forum social media so perhaps I’m not the best person to comment on it. But I know I don’t sweep the problem under the carpet by not using it. Racism, harassment, and other ills occur in real life it’s not just on SM. The internet is difficult to police esp when people hide behind “names” or anonymity. They may get caught eventually but by then the damage has been done, racism or any other “ism” has upset people. The controllers need to do something, forced by governments. I won’t hold my breath. The idea of players stopping SM posts for a day as a protest is something but I doubt it will have much impact. UTG!

All SM users should use their own name and provide verification to register.

As I said spiess1, I don’t do it. And do all users use their real name? Or can they use false names? Serious question as I dont know. UTG!

All SM users should use their own name and provide verification to register. That's a very unusual name you have. Is it your first name or surname?

I did almost use my own name but saw no-one else did, so added the 1. On here alone it would eliminate most of the unpleasantness. Yours, Fabian.
