If he does go, who do you bring in to replace him? Names that would be in my thinking are Ben Garner, Graeme Jones, Graham Alexander, Jody Morris, Johnnie Jackson, Austin MacPhee, Ian Burchnall, Nigel Clough, John Coleman, Paul Hurst, Matt Jansen, Daryl McMahon and Alun Armstrong. Interested to know your logic behind Nigel Clough Pirate?

This is simply semantics at play. At the start of the 2000/01 Ollie was our manager. We ended the season being relegated. He left us in the February and in a dire position. Ironically he moved to QPR where he succeeded in getting them relegated too. So that’s two teams relegated in the same season. He has a history of jumping ship when it suits him. QPR put him on gardening leave when they discovered he was talking to Leicester City behind their back. He left Plymouth in the lurch when he joined, ironically, Leicester City and was relegated yet again. Plymouth are welcome to him. Maybe, maybe not. I don't believe we were in the relegation zone when Ollie left, I think we were 20th. So if you are playing technicalities, where he left us, we wouldn't have been relegated. If he had stayed on, the board had backed him and he got the players he wanted, we may have also stayed up. Instead we went with an inexperienced assistant, who never really had control of the team, who never improved the football or the point scoring run rate and we did go down. Dunford sold all of Ollies best players from underneath him, lets not forget we only for £250k for Cureton and £100k for Zamora, the team needed to be rebuilt and it needed a season to do it. We then went onto to get a part time Gerry Francis, followed by GT permanently again who then only lasted 4 months before being sacked. So the facts appear in play are that actually Garry Thompson got us relegated once and nearly relegated a second time from a lower division, he didn't do the job he was employed to do. QPR were in dire straits when Ollie took that job. A load of aging ex prem players who were unfit and disinterested. It was a poisoned chalice. Yes he got relegated with them, but he also rebuilt them and got them promoted. The fact is Ollie had a part to play in two teams getting relegated in the same season. There will always be mitigating reasons and Ollie is a master at shifting the blame away from himself. The media is his best option nowadays I would think.

If he does go, who do you bring in to replace him? Remember - Coughlan's feeling's for Plymouth are equal to that of Holloway for the Gas Superficial then.

Interested to know your logic behind Nigel Clough Pirate? In his first spell at Burton he took Burton up from the seventh tier to the brink of promotion to League Two. Worked miracles at Burton in the second spell to get them promoted to the Championship and then keep them there and this season has comfortably finished upper mid table on a smaller budget than ours and got them to the Semi Final of the League Cup. Took over Sheffield United in the relegation zone and got them into the League One playoffs and to the FA Cup and League Cup semi-finals and at the same time vastly cut the wage bill.

You can have mine if Ollie comes back

Didn’t Ollie leave Plymouth upsetting the fans? Aaaargh but his blood runs Green, and he likes his cream teas with jam on top as opposed cream. The guy is Devon. His blood runs blue & white, green, orange just call him Mr rainbow veins. I much as I loved Ollie it’s when it suits with him I’m afraid!

Garner is currently Steve Coppell's assistant in India isn't he? Shame he had to move abroad to find a decent gig. Lots of top names on that list if it came to it - my preference would be Hurst in terms of experience grinding out good results with a poor L1 squad. One name that is missing, though, is Darrell Clarke... Garner still in India, but only contracted until the end of the season as far as I'm aware.

Not read the whole thread so may have already been picked up on but interesting article in the BEP today where GC hardly goes out of his way to rule it out (understandably though as why not keep options open).

Interesting take on it. Clearly did a sound job at Burton the first time around and moved them forward as a club. The hard work for promotion to the Championship was put in place by JFH and he took over a team that were two points clear of L1 at the time. Very good achievement staying in the Championship for a season of course and a mid table finish this time around is respectable, nothing more. Did a steady if not unspectacular job at both Derby and Sheff United and wasn't rated particularly highly by fans of the latter in particular. I've never considered him a great lower league manager if I'm honest. What information suggests Burton have a smaller wage bill than ours?

Slightly weird not to deny anything is there given we gave him a three-season contract, no?

He speaks about the interest during his pre match interview. He said he's been linked with the Plymouth job in the past and that is not a new thing. He also talks a lot about building for next season here etc.

Hope we keep him.Seems an honourable man.Not sure from his latest interview what he meant when he said,'The club have made tremendous progress both on and off the pitch'.Avoiding relegation perhaps but only a new tent so must have missed something.

Yes, I agree with you and it would seem strange to leave a long contract at a league one club for possibly league 2 but maybe with his connections to the club and for personal reasons he doesn’t want to publicly rule himself out and will wait to see if he has a decision to make in the next few weeks.

We get much larger attendances than Burton and Cloughie mentioned how we were able to offer higher wages for Rodman when he was interested in signing him for Burton. www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/burton/burton-albion-interest-alex-rodman-1772300
