Hear hear. Shameful and pathetic attempt to gain an advantage by Bamford. Glad to see he's got his just desserts.

Watching the Leeds/Villa game, a thought did occur to me. If the opposing team let Tom Nichols have an uncontested run on goal, do you think he would score?

Harsh, but I laughed!

I agree with the core sentiment but find the fact thus one in particular has been picked out when it happens a couples of times each Saturday across the entirety of the football league a bit odd. Purely because a few people got upset about the circumstances of the goal? Which was valid regardless of any moral code. It ain’t right when groups of players are constantly getting up in other players faces - that’s not right either.

Glad they acted but my understanding is that the punishment for the foul in this incident would have been violent conduct and therefore 3 matches? For me the ban for attempting to “frame” someone for that should at least match it.

This whole episode has made Leeds look pretty poor. Not really surprising as they've stumbled badly when looking dead certs to go up. They could meet again in the final although I don't think Leeds will get there.

Has happened before but only once, and slightly differently.

Why are there so few of the incidents being dealt with by the authorities? There are enough cameras at Prem and Championship grounds to pick up on these deliberate attempts to deceive officials. They should have a citing panel like in Rugby - if every incident was picked up, even if was didn't result in a penalty or red card for an opponent, then the crime should be called Cheating so that label will stick with the player and have a minimum 5 match ban. This will soon filter down to all levels of football, especially kids who probably now see play acting as a legitimate part of the game.

Here's an interesting one from MLS this week when Roldan's red got rescinded, even though he makes a clear contact with the opposition's face. I guess the panel ignored the letter of the law and just took the morale view that Atuesta was being a dick. In the build up to this, you don't see, but Roldan was fouled, then pushed by the bloke who fouled him, and then Atuesta piles in and pushed him. So he basically got sent off for being fouled and pushed about, and the ref ganged up on him with the opposition players. The ruling seems completely against the rules of the game, but exactly with the spirit of the game, which you don't see very often. www.mlssoccer.com/post/2019/05/01/seattle-sounders-win-cristian-roldan-appeal-red-card-rescinded

You can see the thought process in full swing before his legs decide to give way from underneath him.

The thing that grinds my gears is that the innocent team get absolutely no benefit from the punishments. Ironically its their rivals that will benefit.
Unfortunately investigating these things during the game (eg VAR) will only stop the flow of the game as we know it.

Totally agree. Perhaps it's a case of some short term pain for long term gain? Tough punishments and shaming players as cheats may see it eradicated? The same applies to red cad cards for violent conduct or serious foul play. You could be in a relegation battle and have one of your players crocked in injury time, the perpetrator gets a three match ban leaving your relegation rivals a clear advantage if they then have to play them whilst you have lost a player to injury. Very strange but not sure if there's an answer?

Dirty Leeds. Always have been. To be fair, the manager did the sporting thing in allowing Villa to equalize. Not Bielsa`s fault that Bamford did his impression of Julian Clary being punched by Anthony Joshua.

Only for a short while. Give it a few weeks of players getting sent off (and banned) via VAR for cheating and it will soon stop and the flow of the game will return. The video ref can wait until a break in play to communicate with the ref that someone clearly cheated and said player can then be dealt with at the next opportunity. I don't see it making that big an impact on the flow of the game really.
