Fielding was on £8k a week apparently. But if L1 is his level, and his injuries have played a part in him being released then he can’t expect anywhere near that. Good goalie for this level for sure. Blackburn...

Out of interest, what's the earliest you can offer a player a pre-contract for players within the same country? I know it's 6 months if you're moving abroad but is it the same if they're staying in England? The only reason I ask is because there was talk at a game in the last couple of months that we had already started discussions with Jack about potentially joining. I shrugged it off at the time as bored fans talking but I wonder now if there was something to it. Well on fifa 19 its about 6 months. I believe players are free to speak to other clubs from January if they're out of contract that season. However, I read somewhere they've now dropped this rule but I cant seem to find anything about that now though

I assume if Bonham sensed he was going to be released there's nothing stopping us talking to him about a deal, but whether he was listening is another matter! Not sure what's going on with Chapman at P'boro have they transfer listed him as they want shot, or just because he's only a year left on his present contract and as so far refused to sign a new one? If it's the former they've clearly got a replacement lined up.

Maybe he'll sign for Peterborough. Got a nasty feeling he will actually. Hope not. Get him signed up Wael!!! What are thoughts on the Grimsby keeper McKeown? Genuine question as I’ve always thought he was a steady pair of hands. Your knowledge of football however is waaaay above mine so I would value your opinion.

IMO it would be disappointing if Bonham didn't want to sign for us next season. yes like Matty Taylor he could get better financial offers than us but would he get guaranteed first team football elsewhere? I don't think he is a Championship keeper at present and obviously Brentford don't think so either so it would have to be for a League 1 side that have better prospects than us and don't already have a good keeper. At his best Bonham looks a very good keeper but has been a bit dodgy at times fairly recently and had those games come early on with us I am not sure we would be raving about him. Had Smith been in goal at Doncaster he would have been crucified!!! Peterborough would probably be a club that he could get regular football at or possibly a team like Gillingham or Oxford. If you say we are a mid budget team in this division then I would say there are not that many teams who don't already have a good keeper.

Vale-under new ownership from today- and Crewe up here have released their retained lists so ours should be out soon. Stoke releasing Charlie Adam.Would love him but destined for Scotland they reckon.

Local couple by name of Shanahan have bought the club and have appealed to fans on Radio Stoke to turn up to do maintenance at the ground.

Is it only me who thinks Smith had an excellent game in goal against Barnsley?

They also seem to try to squeeze them out by promoting a replacement. That seemed to happen to Michael Smith. It's all about their philosophy of making money from players, even if it affects their performances on the pitch. Not sure it's a good thing for football, but works for them, especially in the current financial climate with such a massive gulf between the second and third tiers.

Smith is a good goalkeeper, unfortunately sometimes your face doesn't fit. With goalkeepers this happens more often than with outfield players. Outfield players can play poorly, go missing in action and not be noticed. It's very hard for a goalkeeper to play poorly and not be noticed. Once you get into a form spiral it's hard to get out of, actions and saves that would come with instinct now become overthought and unnatural. That's when a goalkeeper is at his/her worst.

Goalkeepers rarely earn as much as strikers ...never really understood why as a good keeper can easily be worth 10 points a season.
If it's down to money then I'd rather have a smaller squad than an additional 3 or 4 fringe players who never get a look-in or just sit on the bench to make up numbers. With a development squad we could get by on a smaller first team squad of better quality on the same budget.

Don't disagree, albeit I think Smith's performances when called upon have led to the question marks rather than his face not fitting. I had high hopes when he signed him but have rarely seen him at the level required. Concentration is clearly an issue. Fingers crossed for Bonham longer term. His performances dropped a bit at the season went on which might put some off. Here's hoping.

With regards to the face not fitting as a goalkeeper, it's usually because after 3/4 games they're either deemed excellent or not good enough. Rarely just steady. Smith had a couple of mistakes early on and that lends itself to an atmosphere of doubt around him. You can hear the anxiety when balls are put in the box and that creates more pressure on the goalkeeper. How often do you see a keeper save a penalty, it go out for a corner and then the keeper catch the corner? That's because they've got a rock on, they believe in themselves and back themselves. When a crowd is doubting you, you over think, you over stretch yourself and that's when mistakes happen.

A good keeper has that presence, instils confidence in a defence and commands things. I don't envy them.

Is it only me who thinks Smith had an excellent game in goal against Barnsley? I thought so too. Made two fantastic saves for the Barnsley game and if it wasn't for Ogogo's big head on the goalline we would've had a clean sheet! Also, his distribution was top notch. I don't think it worked out under DC but, especially if we can't secure Bonham permanently, I would not be against keeping Smith. Only 25 too so still plenty of head room in the potential department.
