Some breaking news that Bolton have been put into administration and potentially face a 12 point deduction.

As this season isn't over yet, does that mean they will take the 12 point hit now or, will it happen next season?

About time tbh. How certain clubs can get away with mismanagement time and time again is ridiculous. You only have to look at the person they were trying to sell to, to see that they'd be in the same position or worse in 12 months.
On a positive note, at least we can't be bottom until 4 games in next season!

Excellent news!
Bolton keep having these problems, I remember a few years back when Phil Gartside (SP?) was in charge there, Bolton were in debt to almost £175,000,000!!!
They keep selling to strange people who promise the earth, and deliver nothing.

Winding up order still on the table as the case has been adjourned until 22 May.

I'd imagine the points deduction carrying forward might increase following the postponement of the Brentford game. There's a good argument that they should lose their football league status IMO. I follow the Accrington chairman on Twitter who's very forthright in his views on the structure of English football and it's very hard to argue with him. How on earth are Bury being allowed promotion to League One despite having winding up orders and not paying staff and players?! Quite incredible. The current status quo encourages reckless and unsustainable gambling from owners. The game in this country is a mess and needs proper regulation.

Didn't the Brentford game .. get settled as a 1.0 win to Brentford It did but they've been found guilty of misconduct by EFL by not fulfilling the fixture. I'd be surprised if the punishment for this wasn't more points deduction for next season. Not fulfilling a fixture in the second tier of our game which is awash with money is a disgrace and will surely be treated with upmost seriousness by the authorities.

They'll probably get a further points deduction next season for not playing the game
Potentially they'll be -30 next season

I would kick them out of the league - how many local business have suffered because of their pure incompetence

If memory serves that was owed to an Eddie somebody or other who was a fan and not fussed about the money. Amazing you can have so much personal wealth that you don't give a toss about a football club (even one you support) oweing you that much money. He popped his clogs and that was when the trouble really started...A case in point I guess that oweing that sort of debt to one person, even if they have the wealth to afford it, is not sustainable in the long term.

The idea that they could, in theory, return to the Championship in August 2020 and receive all the financial benefits that go alongside that is outrageous. There's got to be far more disincentives for clubs who roll the dice and end up in financial peril.

If anything at least it would mean one less team in the top half which we could capitalise on.

I mean if they end up with a bigger points deduction then they're going to need play-off/promotion calibre points just to stay up.
