Agree provided we have defenders and midfielders able to pass a ball out to the wingers, who in turn have the ability to put in a good cross and then strikers/attacking mids good enough to stick the ball in the onion bag. Whatever formation or style is chosen success will be down to the quality of recruitment. Of course, but nice to know that the intention is there to play more exciting football next season at least! Plymouth fans will love it. 😜

Wonder what staff are getting the chop then? hopefully Naylor. Bloke is stealing a living not doing an awful lot other than rolling balls to the keepers But he's still the best crosser of the ball at the club!

Haven't listened yet but regarding the previous comments suggesting staff restructuring, I'm ok with that providing it's done in the right way and not detrimental to our present and future as a club. Let's not forget that they removed 2 from the wage bill already when they got rid of DC and MS. They never replaced GC and CH's original roles.

do you watch what he does before the start of games every time the same thing not challenging them in the slightest. And from what I’ve heard he himself knows he’s stealing a living and boasts about it Please enlighten on what you have heard?

Clarke is 34 but he could bag a few in league one. Might teach Nichols a thing or two also. Wages surely an issue and possibly geography. Surely we got to be looking for players that under 34. Not really a long term solution. A 34 year old with no club looking for one last contract is not the answer.

What is he supposed to do?

Nothing wrong with a mix of experience and youth.

Listened to all of it. A very positive interview. I like his straight-talking and determination (comes across). Also has optimism (that doesn't appear to be blind) - well apart from the Tom Nichols bit ;-) He's been busy talking to potential new players and Bonham signing looks close. He wants 4 or 5 starting 11 players and then the other new keeper and Jakubiak as squad players. That might be it. Think that's enough especially as Benno and Matthews want to give it a go in pre-season.

Wants to play a high-pressing, high tempo style of football with pace on the wings and lots of crosses. That’s the bit that pleased me the most, tbh! Oh, you mean normal football. 😂

Surely we should be telling Nichols he is welcome to find a new club. A clean start for both parties is the best solution.
We desperately need goals and sadly he hasn't provided them.

Summers of speculation are overrated but we will put ourselves through the ringer as we always do.

Why would he go to a League 2 club when he was given his first chance by us and did a good job and will have the chance to build his own team. I would not have thought he would have dealt with the retained list if he did not intend to be here. By going to a relegated club he will be going to a club on the down with many players who will probably want away. I personally think he will want to put something more positive on his CV with us than just keeping us up. The only thing that maybe would give him second thoughts are the attitude on here of some "supporters" towards him. Totally disrespectful for what he achieved this season. I am not saying that I necessarily think he is the right man for the job here but I feel strongly that he deserves the chance. Fortunately I suspect that the ones giving GC grief on here could be counted on two or three hands. Because they are persistent and keep saying the same stuff all the time it just feels that there are more. 20 at the most I would have thought. UTG!

Just listened to all of it - highly encouraging and very impressive the way Cogs comes across. Like him or not, like his football over the last six months or not but the geezer is stellar in press-related formats.
Anyway, for those that haven't/won't get a chance to listen, tried to summarise the key points below. He also mentioned he's enjoying the role, it's stressful and he appreciates our support as fans. If I miss anything, holler.
- Wants to play high-tempo, high-pressing football with pacy wide-men and lots of crossing (sounds promising as WeAreTheGas initially alluded to)
- Linesy out of favour and couldn't guarantee him games (we've mentioned all this in the Lines thread)
- Locks said he wanted to leave on a free a few months ago and they've been in dialogue since then but he couldn't convince him to stay (likewise, Lockyer thread)
- Sincs was disillusioned by lack of games so left, Leadbitter worries his body is giving in to injuries
- Mensah and Payne free to find new clubs, Bennett and Matthews likewise but those two are going to fight for their place over pre-season (all under contract another year)
- Hasn't been approached by Plymouth and 'is contracted to Rovers' (sounds like he'd go if they came in and club were happy to release him but that's just my interpretation)
- Staff size will be reduced as we have "too many members of staff on the books", he's already told those who will be leaving
- He's currently in Sheffield (where he and his family live permanently) and he's been in to visit his mate Chris Wilder (Sheffield United) and Dean Smith (Villa) en route
- Whilst up north he's meeting two players (one on a golfing trip)
- One heavily linked (my words, not Cogs) to be Leon Clarke, who he said he hasn't spoken to, rates highly but thinks he'll stay in the Championship
- Also heavily linked (my words, not Cogs) with Plymouth-released CB Ryan Edwards, said he's his ideal CB - heads, kicks, tackles (sounds very interested so definitely something there)
- Already talking/making offers to players but doesn't expect much movement in May/June while players take holidays/deliberate over offers
- He's made an offer to Bonham, isn't 100% he'll get him but he has "high hopes"
- Wants two keepers, ideally Bonham and a backup with Alexis Jr the third choice
- Hopes JC and Deon Moore will sign new deals this week, thinks Partington may go elsewhere though as he wants first-team football
- Thinks Nichols will score next season. Told him not to worry about his price tag or previous record. Happy with his performances but wants him to have enough confidence to shoot more and sooner in the passages off play (also playing closer to goal and not so deep/wide)
- Keeps going on about us finishing eighth in league (since he took over) and that's what he's aiming to use as an advertisement to potential new players
- Huge fan of Kilgour, future captain in his eyes
- Exploring a permanent deal for Jakubiak

Totally agree what has GC done that is so unforgivable and deserving of the vilification he is getting from some folk,he's achieved a lot more in keeping us in League 1 than some of the bell ends that have managed our club. He said it would be a scrap and not pretty and it wasn't but that's what is required when your 4 points adrift at Xmas. He shipped out the deadwood and brought in 2 guys who were instrumental in saving us from the drop He may not have the polish of many Managers and drops the occasional clanger but who doesn't. Let's see what the summer brings then make a judgement after 10 games in that's the least the man deserves. Using your words not mine the tide has turned and brought back some of the driftwood back inshore. Vilification of players released or loaned and labelled deadwood is not nice in my opinion! Nicolls was signed by DC and hardly ever dropped. GC persisted in playing him. Two managers plus his previous club manager must see something there! but vilified on this forum. I think DC was a good manger at the level we were playing at the time but his style of football was all about scoring more than those goals conceded IMO. Taylor, Harrison and Bodin were the reason. DC failed to replace them and paid the price. GC I like, but feel he has let himself and the club down massively by having a public spat with Lines. If the alleged reason was to refuse to go out on loan is true why does GC often state he respects a player wanting to leave when he wants them to stay. GC had no reason to say what he did it was more petulance even anger IMO What public spat? It was clear that GC didn’t rate him because he didn’t play him. Big surprise, new manager changes team around and starts to get wins and movement up the table. Happens all the time. But I’ve been asking for days what this spat was and no one has been able to tell me what’s been said. Not very public! Two people not particularly getting on doesnt make it public. UTG!
