He earns "no where near" that. About 600K dollars. About £400K P/W www.investopedia.com/managing-wealth/5-highestpaid-soccer-players/ "In November 2017, he agreed to a contract extension with Barcelona to stay with the club through the 2020-21 season. The contract promises an annual salary and bonus of at least $80 million." $80 million converted into £ at an exchange rate of 0.79 makes £62.9 million, equating to approx. £1,209,677 per week. .

Two Forbes sources say he will earn $667,000 a week. We’re really splitting hairs here mate.. honestly don’t care. If it isn’t Messi, probably still will be before he retires haha!

Absolutely obscene money, but I'd take it. To be fair, Messi is a great player and not an egotistical prima donna.
Hard to compare him to past greats.
I'm old enough to have seen George Best and he was truly sensational for the shortish period of time he was at his peak. I've never seen anything like him since, but most defenders were just cloggers in those days, and perhaps they might be able to contain him now. But I doubt it.

You mean like Bobby moore He said 'most' not 'all' ! Not all players were cloggers try Duncan Edwards. Roger Byrne. That's 2 more.there have always been cloggers even nowadays but there were also a lot of very good footballers try rovers for example Peter Sampson. Norman sykes. Josser watling harry Bamford the list is endress and bear in mind these players were using a leather football not a beach ball like today and invariably on mud heaps for pitches.let's see the current crop of genii play in those conditions and judge them then

TBF they are arguably th greatest players th world has ever seen. I'm 1993 born so I can't comment on the Maradona's, Pele's (fraud), Eusebio's, Charlton's, Best's, Puskas', De Stefano's, van Basten's, etc. of the world. However, I fail to believe any of them even come close to Messi. And that includes Ronaldo (and I'm a United fan). Messi is the greatest goalscorer, mover, passer, game-controller, playmaker etc. I have ever seen with the greatest finishing ability, dribbling, low-gravity balance, vision etc. that I have ever seen. He is a phenom, a complete footballing god and a total anomaly. As far as I'm concerned, the best players in the world are Mbappe, Neymar, Sterling (genuinely, now), Salah, VVD, etc. Ronaldo is the best player from another planet and he's on the next level. Messi is from a different f**king universe. Maradona was incredible... skill and strength was immense. Had everything.. Almost single handed won world cups and league titles. By far the best for me

The problem with trying to work out who the best player ever was is that ...well....you can't!! I am 64 and my hero was Bobby Charlton. His skill, strength was incredible to watch. What a tremendous shot he had. Modern footballers (including Messi) could probably managed to strike the ball more that 10 yards!. The ball was like a medicine ball (to all the young ones reading this, that was a leather ball that was stuffed solid and was incredibly heavy - only used in the gym). The leather ball they used in the 60' and 70's would absorb water and get heavier and heavier as the game went on. The pitches they played on were absolutely terrible (you think the Mem's pitch last year was bad well it was like a snooker table in comparison!!). George Best had the best control ever. He was so skilful, quick, intelligent....a joy to watch. However, I believe that Messi is most certainly the best player we have ever seen in the modern era of football. Ronaldo is good but he is a total knobhead!!

By far the best for me Three players I like are Garrincha, Matthias Sindelar and Sandor Kocsis. In the 1962 World Cup, Garrincha in the absence of Pele, led Brazil to glory and he was the best player in the tournament receiving the World Cup Golden Ball for player of the tournament, the Golden Boot as leading goalscorer, and was named in the World Cup All-Star Team. Sindelar, known as "The Mozart of football" or Der Papierene (The Papery Man) due to his slight build, was the star and captain of the Austrian 'Wunderteam'. He scored 574 goals in 657 club games. Kocsis was part of the 'Mighty Magyars' Hungarian team. He was the top goal scorer in the 1954 World Cup with 11 goals, being the first player to score two hat tricks in a World Cup. He scored 153 goals in 145 games for Honved, 111 goals in 184 games for Barcelona and 75 goals in 68 games for Hungary. The best player of all time for me though is Messi.
