It’s good to see us so active in the transfer market, just trust we also add another striker permanently

Somebody who is knowledgeable about our development team, if one person who is not named on the list for the squad was to break into our team this year then who are the most likely candidates?

Lucas Tomlinson is the one !very ,very skillful and can leave defenders dizzy, but he is still a lad physically and may get pushed around to easily at the mo,certainly worth a sub place though ,to bring on and create chances, once he beefs up reckon he will be some player!hope he gets chance as dont think we have shown enough faith in young players recently, dont want Russe to go on loan ,he is good enough for squad now,IMO!

Assuming Moore signs his contract or we get in a striker on similar money to replace him then, unless Reilly does return home, you have to wonder how we're going to fit another striker into the squad when we've already got 5 strikers in JCH, Moore, Reilly, Nichols and Smith.

Tomlinson The boy's got some oomph in him shots ! Watched him in the development squad against Southend towards the end of last season and he's the one player that stood out to me.

Looking at the squad i am happy with our lot ,we look well stocked at the back, and up front i have more faith than some in our present options.I predict that Gavin Reilly will get 15 or so as will Smith,Tom will be much more prolific and notch 9 or 10 !hope JCH gets fit quickly but must have like for like replacement(Deon Moor?].Perhaps Moore is undecided on future if he see's players be signed on loan who will be ahead of him in pecking order? My one concern is creativity in midfield ,which was a big problem last season., any way i see options all over the place and i am very optimistic for the new season, think there will be one or two youngsters who will delight and surprise us,the future is bright for the blue and whites,up the Rovers!!

Not sure how anybody who watched us regularly last season can say they are happy with the squad as we still have the same issues, goal scoring wise, of lack of creativity both on the wings and in midfield, until that's resolved it's pointless suggesting Reilly, Nichols & Smith are going to score 40 goals between them.

Looking at the squad i am happy with our lot I'm sorry but looking at the current squad, I deffo cannot say I am happy with the squad and that is because of the wide midfield positions. The players we currently have who could play in those positions are: Rodman Matthews (injured/may not be here anyway) Bennett (very hit and miss/may not be here anyway) Sercombe (wasted out wide) Little (full back) Hare (full back) Leahy (full back) THD (injured/full back) We are desperately lacking in the wide midfield/winger position and we really need to strengthen there. Okay, granted we may line up in a 3-5-2/5-3-2 and I think we have players who can play wing back back well but in a 4-4-2/4-5-1/4-3-3, I feel we would struggle with the players we currently have.

Not that we should hold our breath but if Tom Nichols has finally find his scoring boots he’d be like the new quality signing we’re all after. Especially considering how everyone thought his all round play last year was good, just the lack of goals that let him down.

Especially considering how everyone thought his all round play last year was good, just the lack of goals that let him down. Yeah I think given the tactics from last night, the way we were playing seems to suit the poachers like Reilly and also Nichols. I think we always played too narrow last season, expecting Nichols or Reilly to be able to run past players and find spaces to shoot, and neither of them are really big enough to be enough of a physical presence to do that effectively. Thankfully we got JCH in who could do that. But this season if we are going back to wide attacking LB/RB like we had with Lee Brown, whipping in low crosses, I think that style of play will absolutely suit Reilly and Nichols. I’d say we need 1-2 creative midfield/winger options now. I don’t think our strikers are bad but have been utilised poorly due to restraints in our wide play, so fixing that should help bring the best out of them. Edit: Even just wide players to free up Sercombe as a roaming CAM would be enough, to be honest.

If the manager wants to play with a midfield narrow diamond type formation with the full backs providing width it would be pointless signing more wingers imo. I think luton used that set up pretty well though i believe both their full backs have now been sold. Not saying that GC is right but you have to sign players to suit the system you intend to play in my view.

Besides possibly central midfield I would argue that fullbacks is probably our strongest position now, 3 left backs and 2 right backs, unfortunately a few of them are a bit of an unknown atm. But Little has played a lot of Championship football and reports sounded promising about Leahy last night so hopefully we’re like Luton and clubs are chasing our players next season.

You may be right halifax and I know nothing about him but when you say he needs to strengthen physically you are probably right but we need to give these younger players a chance in the squad because until you give them a chance we will never know. I know it’s not the same but as a ST holder here at Bournemouth I saw Brooks here last season play about 16/17 games and you look at him and think he’s not strong enough and he probably isn’t but his skill level was such that he would create lots of chances and his speed meant some defenders couldn’t catch him. We thought he’d be stuck on the bench and come on at the end for experience but Eddie H played him from the start, took him off around 60 mins until he lasted longer and longer as the season went on. I expect he would have been in the gym this summer getting stronger but, as you say, if he’s good enough put him in the squad. I’d certainly like to see Russe and Kilgour in every match day squad. UTG!

Assuming he wasn't just talking BS then GC suggested he was trying to sign 1 or 2 marquee/big name signings, if they are not wingers/strikers it makes you wonder where they are going to play?
