The club will no longer be using Young Pirates members to act as ball boys, they are being replaced by boys from the academy next season.
I think this is a shame, as it's another chance for ordinary kids to be involved with the club which is being taken away.

Haven't heard the club rational behind this decision - just that ball boys have been informed that they will not be required next season. For some of them it was going to be their first time doing ball boy duties - now they've been dumped before they've even started. I thought that the chap from the Young Pirates who looks after them always did a great job, and they seemed well drilled in what they were to do as far as I have seen on matchdays. The ball boys get free admission (a perk of sitting on one of those little stools, freezing their nuts off), as do the academy players, so maybe it's a cost cutting exercise, which will be justified by saying it makes us more professional as a club.

Maybe it’s because Cogs wants the academy players beside the pitch in front of decent crowds so that they get the experience which should help them in the long term ?

Part of the reason we got our 1st season tickets was because the little 1 became a ball boy.

Maybe they want ball boys with a better appreciation for the flow of the game and the potential for game management.

How did you become a ball boy anyway out of interest?
It's a shame in some regards, but I see the sense in having Academy players doing it.
The bigger issue is that the decision seems to have been made 'late in the day' and something like this should have been communicated before the end of the season that it would change, especially if some people now have to purchase season tickets with it's arbritrary deadline

That’s a shame if true, I was a ball boy at Twerton from1988 - I992, some of my best memories are from that time. Claimed Nigel Martyn’s and Steve Yates top because of it. Watched ollie smash his penalty in against city to win 3-0 and claim promotion!! Oh the memories

All the ball boys and girls got a call yesterday.
What a shame. Young Pirates and Dave have done a great job for many years, and these kids really enjoy the experience and the feeling of being part of their club.
One unhappy lad in our family though.

I think this is a shame, as it's another chance for ordinary kids to be involved with the club which is being taken away. That is truly awful and yet another loss of getting youngsters to get involved in and get interested in becoming supporters , I don’t understand why the tangible split from the SC

Understand people may be dissapointed their kids wont be a ball boy or girl though.

Not sure how being a ball boy gets you interested in being a supporter. surely in the main, it's young supporters anyway that are doing it in the first place.
I can understand why clubs would want to use academy players. makes them part of the game and part of their learning process
