I won't be watching. The same goes for non league men's football whenever that gets televised as it's just not good quality. I could tolerate watching Rovers playing at that level but never watched any other matches. I'll be aware of the WC results because the BBC website will force feed it on us by putting it top of their news and sport pages. I would say the BBC should be putting it front and centre with no mens competition this summer. Its the World Cup after all! Looking at BBC football this morning there are 2 womens footballs articles compared to 8 mens before I scroll down. Thats hardly being force fed is it?

However with all those coming up there is only one article about Mkhitaryan not being able to travel for the Europa League final.

Standard would need to improve massively before I pay an interest, judging by the televised games I've seen Compared to what we have watched this season at the mem, i would suggest the standard is very high !

I'll definitely be watching. England have some really good players like Steph Houghton, Toni Duggan, Fran Kirby, Lucy Bronze and Georgia Stanway. Also looking forward to watching the likes of Dzsenifer Marozsan (Germany), Alexandra Popp (Gernany), Lieke Martens (Netherlands), Carli Lloyd (USA), Alex Morgan (USA), Crystal Dunn (USA), Saki Kumagai (Japan) and the legendary Marta (Brazil). I've got an idea for a new game this summer. Name a player and his/her age today, from anywhere in the world and any period in history. If Pirate can name the club(s) he/she played for, he gets 5 points. If he can't, the Forum gets 5. If the Forum beats Pirate by the end of July, he has to take ggmi for lunch.

Pushing a women's football thread to the top of a football forum goes totally against all of my views. Damn, there I go again. If only I'd said something like I'm not averse to womens football getting coverage. Then it wouldn't be soooo ironic.
Not everyone's a fan of the women's game, as you can see. No need to get all butthurt.

When the fa lifted the ban on women’s football in 1971 I joined a local team. Yes I am an old git. The league we played in went from Plymouth in the south over to Swindon and across to Port Talbot. The women’s game has come on in leaps and bounds since those early days. It still irks me that the FA banned the women as some teams back in the 1920’s were getting crowds of 20 thousand. Dick Kerr ladies of Preston were the best team back then. Claire Balding did a good documentary about the women’s game last year.

Class player. One of the best ever in the women's game. Marta is a horribly overrated flat track bully. France will be hard to break down, Mbock and Renard are wonderful centrebacks. England are at an interesting stage, lots of promising young players. We'll miss Nobbs and Christiansen going forward, Jodie Taylor is in cracking form for Seattle Reign so hopefully she can take that into the tournament. I fancy Lucy Staniforth to have a good tournament for England, probably the best footballer in the squad with Nobbs injured. She too has had injury problems but I think she could at last show her early promise on the biggest stage. Could be a breakout tournament for Beth Mead too

I would watch the final if England were in it,but otherwise I find it difficult to watch. Which as a member of the "fairer sex" I should be more keen on the ladies game, but somehow it doesn't fit with me,I always compare it with the men's game so there is no contest. The goalies are usually rubbish!! I have nothing against women playing football(women playing rugby is hard to watch!)but for me I have little interest. Would be interesting on other female members thoughts. Tilly? I admit women's football doesn't appeal to me and I agree the goalkeepers are invariably rubbish. The one area of the game which hasn't improved - for some reason they don't seem to be able to jump. If I was in charge of women's football I would propose making the goals smaller. Historically the most under-coached position. Improving now there's more professionalism.

I went to a number of games when the Women's World Cup was held in Germany in 2011, including the Final. Technically, the standard was very good, and I think now it's even better. You cannot compare it to the Men's game, and it would be unfair to do so. The same applies to any sport. People still watch Women's Tennis don't they? We still find the Women's 100m final in the Olympics worth watching. Yes, it is not the same as the Men's events, but it is still sport. If people complain that Women's football is no good as it doesn't compare to the Men's game do we then not bother watching ANY Women's sport? Does watching Bristol Rovers compare with watching Man City, Barcelona, Liverpool, Spurs etc etc? Of course it doesn't in terms of skill, pace etc, but we still watch the Rovers don't we? The standard is improving at all levels, too, issues within the game have been identified and worked on - for example, the loss of players at teen ages is being addresses through the Wildcats system and through more flexibility at grassroots level. The increased publicity on e.g. the BBC has also helped loads. Young women don't feel awkward saying that they are a footballer any more.
Coaching has improved though more attention being given to women's teams by clubs; by the generally better and more structured coaching being given by the FA; and through coaching grants.
The standard in the Gloucestershire County League this season was easily the best I've seen in 12 years of watching, with probably the youngest ever average age too.

Pretty much sums up how I feel - I'll probably take a look at the England games, and, of course, I'll jump on the bandwagon if we get to the final. Women just aren't physically built to be decent goalkeepers.

I wonder if the BBC would ever disclose the number of hits their articles get. Might indicate the level of interest. Probably disproportionate to the amount of coverage they will give it. Dont get me wrong I'm all for all sports and more girls should be encouraged to take part. I just don't understand the media over egging it and trying to force it on us. It's almost shameful and prejudiced if you dare disclose that you are not interested in watching.

It's quite odd the way she's been treated in the media as if she's come from nowhere despite scoring a hatful of goals for Sunderland.

Well, speaking as a cricket fan, County Championship Cricket has streamable BBC commentary on every game despite often having attendances gazumped by Women's Super League games. The league currently doesn't have any games covered by local BBC Radio, any streaming services are provided by the club. I actually find the coverage of women's football frustrating as it's not critical enough and tends to work as a tool to just hype the sport. If someone plays sh**, I want a pundit to tell me. Women's football is over 100 years behind in its professionalism and is still learning with every season. Realistically there's not a lot of football to talk about at the moment so it will get more coverage but when highlights programmes etc are shunted to midnight in the week it's not really shoved down your throat. You can also, you know, not click on the articles.

I just don't think someone gets as many awards as she did solely by being a one-trick pony; though I do think she took advantage of circumstances in her early years, since she was still unparalleled (lack of investment/talent/professionalism in other countries etc). Agree on all the rest though. I'll be keeping a close eye on Germany as well, especially Alexandra Popp and Maroszan; caught a few friendly matches and they seemed class. And if anyone fancies an underdog, Canada is a tight unit who just might do something this season, especially if they manage to qualify in a group with USA and Sweden.
