Was impressed with Scannell against us, although Bradford fans, said he was not like that every week. It is a worry, when player's have suffered from injuries. But some work out like Bodin did.

Scannell did play well against us but listening to TW talk about signing Jordi he talked about watching him over a period of time, a kind of due diligence in transfers. With such an injury hit player like Scannell I hope some kind of a similar due diligence has happened here. We’ve started off well recruiting but so far we’ve not addressed the lack of creativity or striking threat that we suffered with last season so whatever we do that still needs to be done. UTG!

FB Claiming Sean Scannell from Bradford coming our way.Family live WSM.Pirate? Didn't know his family live in WsM. I like him, good player. By the sounds of it only the poster on FB knew that as well, given he was born in Croydon then playef in London before moving to W York's, there's no real evidence of a WSM connection.

And pace / width. I like the look of our signings but at the end of last season my priorities for us were replacing Lockyer , Clarke and Bonham which it looks like we’ve done but obviously the jury’s out whether they’re better than those that have left . wingers , which we only finished last season with rodman , a playmaker to replace lines as you say , something we badly need to do because there’s pretty much no creativity in our current side and that was obvious and frustrating all of last season when lines didn’t play, and another striker or two with either perhaps Nichols or Reilly going on loan. We still need two or three wide attacking players with pace and a playmaker to find their runs in to space the way lines used to. Regarding strikers I think it’ll probably be a loan , hopefully someone who can score tap ins because that’s one thing we’ve really missed since Taylor left. It’s a good interesting start to the window for us but I’m still worried we’ll be starting the season without a playmaker , none of us seem to know for sure whether lines was in the cold because they fell out or Coggy just didn’t want a playmaker in the middle or both. If it’s the latter then I really hope our new defenders can play a decent long ball, something that Lockyer regardless of his defensive attributes was pretty poor at and Craig can’t do either.

We've signed a goalkeeper, but I don't think he's a replacement for Bonham. Probably a backup keeper to challenge the other keeper we will hopefully be bringing in. Hopefully Davies will be a decent signing, I've not seen much of him, but with less than 100 games in the Football League at the age of 27, he will have to be some player to be an upgrade on our former captain who has played over 200 games in the league at the age of 24 and won international caps by the age of 22. The lack of creative options in midfield and out wide is glaringly obvious and the lack of a goal threat up front other than JCH needs to be addressed.

Agree with Pirate that it’s our midfield that desperately needs improving. You need a bit of proven quality in this area or we’ll be also rans or never started! 2 quality midfielders and another striker who can score goals. This is where our hopes for next season will hinge.

As it stands, I see nothing to suggest this won't be a relegation battle. Presumably there will be another keeper and if we can add at least one winger, a playmaker, a striker and, importantly, ship out Payne, we may be able to enjoy a comfortable season. Fortunately, the season doesn't start in June though. Plenty of time for Coughlan to pick up these players, assuming of course that the budget and his own theories allow. I'm not really bothered whether players sign now or close to deadline - it's the quality of player that counts.

Hope people don’t start yearning for Lockyer if Davies doesn’t hit the ground running as Lockyer wanted to leave. Yes he did really well and deserves his opportunity at a higher level- but his distribution was questionable and some fans didn’t rate him above L1 level. A winger with pace crossing ability and a shot goes a long way to improve midfield creativity and scoring goals up front - ala Kenny Stephens, Wally Walters, Carayol type player - 2 for the price of 1.

You mentioned Kenny Stephens I liked him but we had a much better player in Micky Barrett, he was skillful, pacey and got goals, he was a great loss to the club when we lost him to cancer. Played in the second tier could have gone on with Mabbutt to play at the top level.

Remember watching Rovers from the South Enclosure.
The groundsmen used to come out at half time and repaired all the divots where Micky Barrett had turned the opposition defence inside out.
Still my favourite ever Rovers player.
Amazing winger.

Urgh can’t wait for his name to drop off the first page! Doh! If people don't like the title of this thread then we should change Nicky to Micky and add Barrett to the title then we could talk real quality. I was young when he was playing so probably never fully appreciated his quality at the time, there maybe better wingers at the club before him but certainly the most talented sine the mid 70's. I can remember him playing tennis in Candford Park with Gary Mabbutt when I worked there, really sad when he stopped coming along to use the courts. Him, Mabbutt, Dave Williams and Randell wish we had them now.
