A spark in a poor Bradford side last campaign The problem is it depends on what Sean Scannell we would be getting. If we would be getting the Scannell plagued by injuries and lack of match fitness over the last couple of years, then I would probably say this is one to avoid but if we would be getting the Scannell of his Huddersfield and Crystal Palace years, the one that tore us apart at the mem for Bradford, then it could be an excellent signing. It’s whether he can avoid injuries and if we could get a run of games into him, similar to THD in that aspect.

We’re in for players we can afford but represent a bit of a gamble . Players that have a few injuries, players leaving relegated teams etc etc. Players we think if they get back to their best could be a bargain but it’s a gamble . We’ll win some and lose some. We can’t afford to go out and get players who’ve just had an excellent season.... more the player who was good 18 months ago and we hope can reproduce that form.

Scannell has been class every time I’ve seen him. I’d be delighted to get him.

Just realised Scannell is still in contract at Bradford so we'll be paying a fee for him. Surely there's more reliable players available on a free?

Scannell is a very good Footballer, certainly for this level.
The only issue I have is his injury proneness.
He's only played about 40 games in total over the last 4 years.
Probably an indication as to why he's at this level in the first place.
If he can keep fit then fantastic signing, if he's only going to play 10-15 games then he won't be certainly not for a fee aswell.

Some of the good players that are out of contract or released this summer that can play wide are Jon Taylor (Rotherham), Josh Morris (Scunthorpe), Craig Noone (Bolton), Will Buckley (Bolton), Danny Mayor (Bury), Tarique Fosu (Charlton), Callum Roberts (Newcastle) and Tommy Rowe (Doncaster).

Loved his recording of "Pretty little Sheila".
Dammit! Given my age away, again.

Absolutely, players that have had good seasons in this division are more than likely to be priced at premiums we can’t afford. Therefore we need to resort to signing either players that have impressed in divisions below us, Josh Hare for example, free transfers from this division and the division above or as you say players that have shown promise in the past but have fallen by the wayside recently. Widdrington’s task is massively important because we need a good summers recruitment to move on from the disappointment of last year and there is a fairly big turnover of players to contend with too. We’ve made a good start by recruiting some players in defensive positions but we are by no means done just yet, I really feel as if we need 3/4 players in attacking positions to provide an injection of quality going forward as we were lacking there massively last season.

Clayton Donaldson? Wasn't he on loan with us at one time? No, you're probably thinking of Clayton McDonald. I think Donaldson will be a decent signing for Bradford, even in the latter stages of his career. He will be looking to end his career on a high and he's also a lifelong Bradford fan.

Remember watching Rovers from the South Enclosure. The groundsmen used to come out at half time and repaired all the divots where Micky Barrett had turned the opposition defence inside out. Still my favourite ever Rovers player. Amazing winger. Played against him in a 6 a side tournament at Longwell green. To this day I cannot fathom how he got the ball past me and was 15 years away with me standing and looking on in awe. It was like a magic trick, I kept my eye on the ball, didn’t dive in but his trickery was too much. Superb player, lived on his nerves and could not stand still. Sadly the smoking got him. A huge loss to us and I will never forget the vile chants from the 82 , at that time

He had just completed his best ever season for the club, including the last minute winner against Millwall at Eastville on the final home match of the season and then a couple of months later he was gone. Me and a mate attended the funeral at a church in St George and it was just heartbreaking. Nice to see some clips of him playing on You Tube.
