We played some of our best football in the chuckatrade cup last season and you lot missed it, oh the shame Wasn't that down to the fact that apart from the two finalist nobody else apart from us took it seriously? Surely this is the season a U23 side finally gets to Wembley and no fans turn up?

How so... Just think next season you could be watching the European Champions League (although they've not won a league for about 30 years) Champions (brought to you by sky TV and coca cola) stars of the future at the Mem next season. If I want to see stars of the future I'll watch youth team football. At the Mem playing against our senior team I want to see stars of the present who've earned the right to be playing first team football. I want to see us play competitive fixtures against clubs that actually want to win the competition as much as we and our fellow lower league clubs want to. Do Man Utd fans or Liverpool fans or even Swansea fans give 2 shits whether they win this competition? It's demeaning to clubs like us as it treats us like doormats, like second class citizens. If you are OK with that then fine for you, but personally I just do not understand how can you be. The biggest away following, apart from Sunderland, in the EFL Trophy was for West Ham U21 game last year and they brought quite a few. Football in this country long ago sold out to the Sky Dollar. Sadly no one really gives a toss about the lower league clubs now apart from the few that turn out. The EFL Trophy is merely a symptom of the problem that Sky and the Premier League have created. It's not just football. It's hard to believe that this country is currently hosting the World Cup in one of our National Sports and you'd hardly notice it unless you follow Cricket and subscribe to Sky Sports.

Very sad times. Agreed, very sad times and I completely agree with your assessment. However, I won't sour myself by adding my name to the list of millions that just accept it.

Very good. The EFL Trophy doesn't have a shred of credibility and it's genuinely perplexing that some are prepared to support and get behind this competition.

The cricket World Cup is a farce in itself, as who's really interested in a tournament lasting, it seems, the whole of the summer.

"Demeaning" - with one word posters above have encapsulated what this cup has become.

It’s 2 weeks in to the tournament and summer starts in a week. You get to the final you play 11 games. How many games to get to the football World Cup (yes I said that on a football forum) final? 7 maybe. P.s Boycott this competition. Shame on any of you who continue support this shambles of a farce. Start supporting our clubs future not the premier league clubs future.

Some people may say shame on anyone who supports a sport that is almost solely funded by companies that purpetuate the disparity in the financial well boring of clubs. As Gil said

If you take out Sunderland’s attendances from last season then the overall average was down again but the EFL are of course using Sunderland to promote how ‘fans’ are starting to come around to the format.
Also haven’t checkatrade ended their sponsorship now? I guess the football league will be using the likes of Man Utd and Liverpool B teams in their attempt to find a new sponsor.

One good thing to hopefully come out of it is the more B teams that enter we will hopefully soon get an all B team final in an empty Wembley. They have been living off the well supported teams making the final and announcing the whole competition a success based on that one game.

Really can’t be arsed with it anymore...as said elsewhere the thin edge of the wedge is getting thicker.

In the linked BBC article: Nicky Butt, head of Manchester United's academy, said the EFL Trophy "will act as the ideal platform for the development of our homegrown talent". Followed by a picture of a young Dutch Liverpool player! Says it all really.
Perhaps they'll invite a few premier league women's teams next to widen the appeal further!

My position, for what it's worth, is that I didn't go the first year of the Checkatrade as it seemed a bit micky mouse.
On reflection that seemed to only hurt my club through lack of revenue. So I go now and in all honesty enjoyed the games and the laid back atmosphere. It seemed to be a nice contrast to the league games which were pretty bleak, played in a fairly unpleasant atmosphere. It was clear to me that the club was up a particular creek without a paddle financially and couldn't miss an opertunity to raise some extra cash.
As for the U21 teams entering the competition being the thin end of the wedge, that wedge sailed years ago. The formation of the Premier league and the disparity in income distribution saw to that.
The English football World no longer affords clubs the chance to move through the leagues without massive injections of cash relative to their league status. If we were ever to get into the championship our turnover would probably have to quadruple to have a chance of establishing ourselves there. So without outside gifted investment that just isn't happening.
So I'll carry on supporting my club in whatever competition unless it's, genuinely, morally wrong as it will help to ensure the short term stability of the club. If others don't want to it really doesn't bother me as the games under the so called boycott were quite enjoyable.
So if fans don't like the EFL Trophy that's fine but don't imagine it's got anything to do with the demise of the lower leagues, Sky and the Premier league saw to that years ago.

Boycotting all the games isnt making any difference. The only boycott that would maybe make a difference is the final. But then alot of boycotters then decide to unboycott as its a dayout at the home of football the example of pompey shows us that
