For all those wondering the rumours of an exciting signing were created by Jamie Ball on twitter. He called Davies, Hare and the Dutch keeper ages before anyone else did, especially Davies. He said there was an exciting signing on the way and clarified that the Dutch keeper was not that signing. BUT he also claimed he didn't know who the signing was. But given his recent track record I'm at liberty to believe him. But he hasn't posted anything relating to Rovers since Friday.

I can’t see anyone buying any of them. If when they leave I’d imagine it’ll be on a free transfer or a deal where we agree to terminate their contract.

Reference my last post,i do actually think bennett is a very talented footballer. His final ball and his niggling personality lets him down too often sadly but i would rather watch him than many others at the club.

An almost unbelievable pile of unadulterated rubbish concentrated unfortunately at our club, and prossibly costing the best part of £500k per year in wages for the 'pleasure' of keeping them. Even Walsall FC wouldn't take this lot off our hands if we paid them!!!

Even Walsall FC wouldn't take this lot off our hands if we paid them!!! Very harsh. Payne - top scorer at Shrews who finished 3rd the season before. Agreed he has been dreadful for us though but to me that's down to attitude and I could still see him scoring goals at L2 level if someone took him on. Matthews & Mensah - both young and both performed excellently with Eastleigh and Aldershot in the Conference. I am glad we still take punts on these sort of players and have no regrets on having either of them. I still think they could both be decent Football League players, although admit they have got nowhere near their potential for the Gas. Bennett - talented, tricky, skillful, but also frustrating. To say he's part of the biggest part of a big pile of unadulterated rubbish is a massive overstatement, although he is probably earning more than he's worth to a club like us who have to be careful with our spending. Reilly - similar to Mensah and Matthews in that he arrived as a young guy who scored a fair few goals up in Scotland at a team that got promoted to the SPL. It's that potential that we brought in, and he hasn't reached it yet. Who knows after a pre-season under GC he might become profilic for us, as I do think he knows where the goal is.

Yes Jomo can’t disagree with some of that. My point would be to free up some cash for signings and to create the smaller squad that GC seems to want we’ve got to free up some space. What you say about all of them is true but in the end we would need to move on and to that end I’d try and get Bennett and Payne to go. The others may still come good and I doubt they’re costing too much. UTG!

Apart from Reilly who shouldn't really be on the list, they are all Div 2 players at best we're now stuck with paying them Div 1 wages, they are probably the worse group of players we've had on the wage bill since the McGee "Scottish" era. Getting those players of the wage bill is probably GC's/TW's biggest challenge this summer, as SCMP rules will restrict who they can bring in unless they can be moved on.

I totally agree that we have to let some players go but lets be honest with the signings so far we will again face a season fighting relegation and this time probably won't succeed in avoiding it. My reasoning is that we will still struggle to score enough goals without more creativity in the side and also that we can't guarantee that the new defence and goalkeeper will be able to again give us the tremendous defensive record we had last season. What I am saying is that if we cannot get rid of some players then it would be a disaster if we could not still bring in 3-4 creative players whether they be wingers,Central midfield or strikers- I would say 2 strikers,a midfielder and a winger are essential and the more we can bring in BEFORE the two big home friendlies the more chance we have of geling in what could well be as many as 7 players into the starting line up.

I agree that we can do better and it would be best to get Bennett and Payne off the payroll certainly, I was only trying to balance the debate a little bit on those players as it's not as clear cut as "they're crap". I would keep Matthews and Mensah on but send them on loan, and I would keep Reilly for another year to see how he does. Let's not forget it was his first season in L1 and may come back stronger this coming season.

There is still a lot of work to be done - currently, we've lost 8 'seasoned permanent pros' and replaced with two. I cant disagree with anything you've said but it will be very disappointing if any potential future 'good' signings are prevented because of the baggage we are carrying with the players under discussion. I agree with Topper that Reilly should probably not be on 'the list', but maybe TN should be.

IMO, at the very least we still need:
• 1 x GK (#1) • 1 x LW • 1 x ST
Ideally would like another CM, winger and CB on top of that.
