Like any player in this league you can point to games from any player in this team to justify their quality.
Payne was superb at Wycombe away and a handful at Charlton away.
Bennett has had a couple of games down the mem where he's looked a threat.
Jakubiak had Oxford away and a few of the checkatrade games.
My point is that it's often not an issue of quality in the players but the consistency and effort put forth by these players. If GC thinks he can get them motivated and firing then these issues could turn into positives for us.

I do find the treatment Jukubiak and Reilly get quite funny. Jukubiak - Played 38 - Scored 2 - Points 3 - 742 Minutes per Goal. Reilly - Played 30 - Scored 4 - Points 10 - 356 Minutes per Goal. Jukubiak's goals came 48 minutes apart in the same game against Oxford. Reilly scored against Coventry, Fleetwood, Southend and Plymouth. Payne, Lines, Bennett, Martin, Sercombe, Rodman and O Clarke all had better goals per minute ratios than Jakubiak. In contrast, Dom Telford averaged a goal every 121 minutes during his time here, albeit only accumulated 607 minutes. A real shame we couldn't snap him up IMO.

Not sure if I imagined it but didn't GC say that Payne and Mensah could find themselves another club?
I actually think Mensah given a proper run of games could do something, Aldershot fans I know said he needs exactly that and we don't want to throw yet more transfer money away.

He won't be given the opportunity because he was a Clarke player.

Payne was a disgrace and an embarrassment to BRFC away at Luton, after being subbed he chose to leave the dug out and sit on his own away from the dug outs, ffs.

Payne should never play for Rovers again, I would say loan him out to Yate Town but even that might be above his standard.

I totally agree that we have to let some players go but lets be honest with the signings so far we will again face a season fighting relegation and this time probably won't succeed in avoiding it. My reasoning is that we will still struggle to score enough goals without more creativity in the side and also that we can't guarantee that the new defence and goalkeeper will be able to again give us the tremendous defensive record we had last season. What I am saying is that if we cannot get rid of some players then it would be a disaster if we could not still bring in 3-4 creative players whether they be wingers,Central midfield or strikers- I would say 2 strikers,a midfielder and a winger are essential and the more we can bring in BEFORE the two big home friendlies the more chance we have of geling in what could well be as many as 7 players into the starting line up. I'm gobsmacked ! I usually agree with you Steve, and yes NO attacking players as such have come in but the 3 outfield signings so far surely breed confidence in what the team can do next season ? I don't think we need so many creative players either - a good quality left wide man and strike partner for JCH and we should do well (top half). Players like Ogogo, Nichols, Sercombe, Kelly, Hare and Reilly on the bench ! I'd say that was pretty strong to add to a starting 11 with the 2 attacking additions.

Why do the signings so far make you feel so confident? On paper, the only player we’ve signed so far who should be a significant upgrade on what we had last season is Little (IMO). Hare will be backup RB (I imagine), JVS backup GK and I struggle to see Davies being an improvement on Lockyer. I’m very much hoping that our biggest signings are yet to come.

Another goalie and we have a good defence. We need a left winger. A central midfielder. A striker. Just 4 more, but we need to get rid of a few as well

We've already got two in Nichols and Payne that cost us a lot of money and are probably on high wages! Offload them both or give Nichols a chance on the wing. Strikers are always the most expensive players and we seem to be good at spending money on second rate ones. Sercs was ineffective last year out on the wing and I think Ogogo and Clarke will be GC's first choice CMs because they're battlers. I'd be interested in seeing Sercs up top / second striker behind JCH. Focus on bringing in 1 or 2 quality wingers. Good service into JCH and Sercs behind smashing in the loose balls - I think both could get 10/15/20+ next year

If we are to sign another striker, Payne will have to go, maybe even another. We can’t afford to have Nichols, JCH, Reilly, Mensah, Payne and the wages of another striker, especially if we are forced to fork out a fair bit to find an upgrade on what we’ve already got.
Same goes for the midfield, we may be able to bring in an addition to replace Lines/Sinclair but considering we’ve got Upson, Agogo, Sercombe, O Clarke and Russe, we are quite stacked for that position already.
Going to be an interesting couple of months recruitment wise and I suspect Coughlan will have to conduct some shrewd business to fully utilise his budget.
