I was told by source within the club that gc has met with Leon Clarke and offered him a deal. He’s going to be weighing up his options apparently next couple of weeks. I think that sounds good ... don’t know much about him. 34 ... lots of clubs .... Pirate ... Help please ...

Given our financial situation and his situation as a player I can't see anyway that Danny Mayor isn't one of the marquee targets. Did I read this right that you can't see any way that Danny Mayor won't be signing? Do you realise this is real life, not fantasy football?

Clarke can do a bit of everything really, drop a bit deeper with his back to goal and receive the ball or run in behind. I can just see the pair of them linking up quite well with their combination play and pace and power, that would be a handful for defences at this level.

Tony Craig, aged 34, get rid his legs have gone, Leon Clark, aged 34, would be a good signing with his pace, what am I missing?
My punt on the 3 new signings, Mayor, Clarke and the young striker from Villa, add goalie Joe Day and I have to agree with Nigel Clough's views at the weekend that we could be outsiders for a top 6 finish.

I bow to Nigel Clough's vastly superior knowledge of course (in fact, would like to see him managing us one day)...but are you sure he didn't say bottom 6..?!

That would be great. A serious possibility, do you think, or just wishful thinking?

So are you saying we have signed all these players then ? Or is it pure speculation that you are referring too.

I heard far too many managers say we were promotion favourites in each of our seasons in our first miserable stay in L2, to take any manager predictions with anything other than a large pinch of salt. What on earth would Nigel Clough even have to go on other than a hunch?

I bet he's had the same article in every local paper in League 1, with the name of the club and a couple of players changed.

Hardy a decent signing for DC at Walsall and Trott a quality GK for Wimbledon.

Did I read this right that you can't see any way that Danny Mayor won't be signing? Do you realise this is real life, not fantasy football? I didn't say he was signing. I didn't read the situation regarding marquee signings at all. What I meant was given that he's accessible to us (i.e he's at the top end of League 2), given the clubs he's linked to (a lot of them worse than us, i.e. Plymouth), given that he's coming to the end of his contract (as we don't like to spend money) and given that we need a player like him desperately. I can't see anyway that one of the marquee signings we're targeting won't be Danny Mayor. There's no guarantee he'll sign obviously, may get a better option, may prefer another location.
