Thank goodness for that. Genuinely happy that he's gone. If Tranmere fans think he is the new James Norwood, I would kindly suggest they wait and see! Well done GC!

I guess it means they had along chat with his agent. Of course, the more desperate we are to get rid of him, the better his position. Otoh, the better his attitude, and the keener he is to seek a decent contract with a new club, the less we might have to fork out. So basically, we were shafted, probably. I was under the impression that if the club terminates a players contract, they have to pay the rest of it up but if it’s done on mutual terms, the club can pay the player a smaller amount. You never know, Payne could of been keen for some game time, in January he could have stayed with us and collected his wage sitting on the bench but he went out on loan to Shrewsbury. Yeah, the club are obliged to pay the whole contract. But, of course, they have nothing to gain from that. They may just as well say, we're gonna keep you here in the reserves, until the end of your contract. So the player will need to accept less than the full value of the contract if he wants to go. I guess how much that actually is depends on how desperate the player is to get away and how desperate we are to get rid. If Payne really wants to go to Tranmere (and he'd be on a similar wage there), then maybe we wouldn't have to pay that much after all.

Even if we paid nothing here we’ve basically been royally shafted so ill refrain from getting too excited by this. A waste of 200k or however much it was.

Micky Mellon said: “He fits the old style aggressive target man role and we will need that in this division because it is very physical and competitive. “Stefan is the type of lad that will work his socks off at that end of the football pitch. He will make a good physical contribution alongside getting us that end of the pitch and keeping us there." Mwahahahaha Mellon has gone down in my estimation big time! (Although I thank him for taking Payne off our hands)

Tranmere 4-1 for relegation. That'll shorten over the next 10 minutes.

No doubt got a good signing on fee, what with DC at Walsall bidding for his services as well.

Commenting on Payne's departure, Manager Graham Coughlan said, 'This decision works in the best interests of both the player and the club.
"It allows Stefan to move on and seek a new adventure while allowing us to look for alternative options in the remainder of the transfer window."
"We will concentrate now on securing new targets, to build on our recruitment already done this summer and we pass on our best wishes to Stefan for his future.”

Sat in the reserves he would not get appearance money nor bonus money for goal ratio etc. He's better off going. Rovers losetransfer fee but gain from not paying basic pay. That's a lose/win scenario "I think"

One of the best bits of business the club could have done this summer. Can’t remember a departure welcomed as much as this since Mark Wright. Now he’s signed for Tranmere, I’m looking forward to seeing and hearing the reaction when he comes to the Mem! Yes, it will be interesting, early August, 20th. Well he’ll still be in their good books and our memories will be fresh. Someone posted recently asking about the reception Ellis will get. I said I hope he will be cheered to the rafters considering what he did for us. I hope Ellis will be cheered for every touch. Payne will be different! And we all know why. (And if he scores and Sod’s law is that he will I am still pleased he’s nothing to do with us any longer.) UTG!

Great news, but that will have been a costly error. One of DCs darkest hours I'm afraid, well done GC for sorting it and stopping it being a poison to the club. Footballers eh?

Yes I did. But I know what you mean, always thought Norwood overrated, only seen him live twice the rest has been Tv and he’s always acted like a bit of a ****. My point was more about the impact Norwood has had at Tranmere and despite what I think about him I bet the Tranmere fans loved him and I understand why. Payne on the other hand.... disappointment will hit by the middle of September I reckon. Guess we’ll see. UTG!

I see a few Tranmere fans are a bit underwhelmed. At least his first performance should be decent, but the rest...
