I can only echo what pretty much everyone else has said. Absolute model professional both on and off the field. Always gave his all and as much as i hate to see him go , I couldn’t be happier for the lad , I think it’s a great move for him and Charlton. Classy goodbye message which just sums him up , Always a gashead !!!!!

Really surprised he went to Charlton.
Seeming as he said he had a few offers from the Championship, I’m surprised he went to the club in absolute turmoil who are favourites to finish last

Great message, great bloke, hope it works out well for him. Stepping up is s huge test. Really interesting to watch and really hope it goes better than it has done for Taylor, Bodin and Harrison

Reading his words on leaving the club it shows the respect he has for the fans and the club as a whole. And that, Mr. Taylor, Mr. Payne and Mr. O'Toole, is how to leave a club with dignity. Wishing him nothing but success and happiness in his career. A tiny part of me wishes that he would have signed a new contract on the understanding he would be allowed to leave when a decent offer was made, a la Rickie. true legend status would have been achieved and assured. I suppose you can't have it all.

can only agree with all the positives comments about Tom,BUT,like oldgas it would have been good to get a fee for him by him signing contract extension with the proviso that he would be free to leave if he had a chance to better himself, perhaps he thought he had more chance of finding club if there was no cash involved and he is prob right, all the best Tom

good luck to him, hope he plays a load of games. will be interested to see how much he plays. Personally, think he'll struggle to stay/get in the side. If he can improve his passing he’ll make it in the championship, if he doesn’t then expect to see him back in league 1 within a year. Good luck Tom and thanks for everything. UTG Because of course all those current Championship / Premiership centre halfs have fantastic passing ability....TL was quality for us, and this constant dig at his passing ability is pathetic, lets just accept him for what he was.......a brilliant defender for us.

Yes his distribution wasn't always the best - but how much of that is down to the options presented by the rest of the team? With better players giving him better options then, perhaps, that aspect of his game will improve.

Nice statement from Tom, I can honestly wish him best and don't hold it against anyone who wants better them selves playing at a higher level for no doubt more money...However do feel like he engineered his move away to leave on a free.
Bristol Rovers the loser here with Tom leaving for nothing and the significant money loss we have made having paid a fee for Payne who had also left for free.
All the best Tom, but management at the club should never let a player run their contracts down to leave on a free.

You're right. The club should pay them all as much as they ask for, for as long as they want. Simples.

If you have the ability to pass (in different ways) it will still come to the fore. Tom has some championship level attributes but his passing and heading aren't at that level. Is he going to keep Charlton in the Champ ? Think it's going to be a tough task as they are already losing their best players (even after promotion) - Bauer and Aribo, and uncertain to get Bielik again (loaned from Arsenal).

I wish Tom the best as he is a nice lad,and played a huge part in saving our club.Think he needs to improve areas of his game alot to go higher then he is today tho.
Dont blame him for wanting a chance to progress, left at bad taste in my mouth that its on a free tho when his market value a year ago would most likely been over a million.
Wish him all the best.

I accept him for what he was , I don’t think I’m being pathetic I’m merely giving my opinion on a football forum about a player I’ve supported and watched hundreds of times.

I agree, if Tom doesnt improve his passing game he will remain a L1/L2 player during his career after Chalton.I think he can play at a higher level, but this part of his play will make or break him.

There are ways to leave and there are ways not to leave.
Tom has shown us the first.
Good luck Tom for your future. A good player for us and, with the right nurturing, possibly an excellent one.
Not sure Charlton are the right club to do that though, at the moment. Still, best of luck.

They also have some very good players.

Once a Gashead always a Gashead he says. And then buggers off. I trust you've never sought to better yourself in your career then? You've certainly never improved your posting, it's as nonsensical and idiotic as it has ever been. Not so sure. Tom Lockyer is a really nice fella. He is a good footballer, not a great footballer, not a better centre half than say Andy Tilson, or captain than even Vaughan Jones. You cannot fault the bloke for going elsewhere; however, what is particularly annoying, he claims he is only leaving because he wants to play in the championship, which suggests he thinks Rovers have no chance in being able to go up. Hmm. In that case, GC ought to get his coat.

At the time of writing I also didn’t realize that Bowyer renewed his contract in the end, so it’s not as bad as first seemed tbf

Unless Charlton get new owners this summer they could well spend all season in the bottom 3 and Harrison showed that hardly boosted his career progression. Incidentally if Locks only reason for leaving was to play Championship football why didn't he leave when he was under contract so we could have picked up a transfer fee!
