Wasn't the "transfer fee" stuff done to death on the other thread? For once couldn't we keep this on track, and just wish Tom good luck (unless you wish him ill of course, as is your right). ".....Scales impressed prompting City to offer him an attractive contract in recent days. But it would have seen him join their under-23 squad rather than be involved with Pep Guardiola's first team. But he has been told by Pirates boss, Dubliner Graham Coughlan, he will go straight into his first-team plans. Bristol Rovers are in Dublin this week and play St Mochta's in a friendly on Wednesday." Anybody finding it a bit to believe that a player would turn down an "attractive" Man C offer for a contract at Rovers?

So you're basing your argument on 1 betting site you saw where Barnsley were favourites to finish last, compared to the one I saw where they're predicted to finish last? I can be funny with him all I want, because my interests lie with BRFC & the good of BRFC. I wish Tom well for his future endeavours, however I am frustrated he let his contract run down and left us empty handed on monetary terms. There is nothing wrong with that. Besides, all I ever said here was that I am surprised he chose Charlton, a club in dismay, when he was apparently in talks with "3 or 4 championship clubs". Or are you planning to tell me "you can't be" surprised by that. Or perhaps you get used to telling people what they can & can't be.. www.oddschecker.com/football/english/championship/to-finish-bottomI used the above oddschecker which every bookmaker on there has Barnsley at shorter odds than Charlton. "Charlton, a club in dismay" that have just been promoted to the championship. I would love to know what that makes us... I'd just love to know what 'a club in dismay' means.

They already have highly-rated youth international centre backs in their U18s and U23s like Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Eric Garcia, Tosin Adarabioyo, Yeboah Amankwah and Joel Latibeaudiere. He might not even get in the U23 line up, let alone the first team.

I'd just love to know what 'a club in dismay' means. Us after the Mansfield game.

Far more chance of getting on in the game by signing for a lower league club, rather than disappearing without trace at a club like Man city. Good on the lad if this turns out to be true, obviously has a good head on his shoulders and has taken on board good advice he may have had from others.

Good luck shame he had to go on a free but it is what it is Agree it is what it is and we have to accept it. Swings and roundabouts - if we got a Jack Payne or Danny Mayor on a free we'd be delighted. We move on. UTG.

All the plaudits for Lockyer on here are a bit lame. Regularly coated off on this forum. Stated he wanted to leave two seasons ago. So lied , you could say, about his intensions. Running out every week knowing he wanted away. Captain as well. For me that doesn't sit right and he still has a lot to prove. He will get run ragged when he does play. UTG.

Running out every week knowing he wanted away - If ye asked every member of our team they would admit ultimately they want to leave ta play at higher level.
Th lad stayed longer than his future career said he should an did his damnedest to push us on. Yous can bang on about some bad days but one thing everyone on here all agreed on was he always gave 100%. Still only 24, over 250 appearances (many as captain) an two promotions in a Rovers shirt - th lad was top drawer in every sense.

Good move for him IMO. They've recently lost Bauer (PNE) and Bielik (returning to Arsenal) so spots available to claim in their defence and good luck to him in trying to nail one down. Classy lad and brilliant servant.

Barnsley are favourites not Charlton actually. And Ipswich finishing bottom and Charlton being favourites (Or not favourites by anyway) are 2 different things. I support Rovers not Lockyer but you can't be funny with him not getting us a transfer fee, I'm sure you would put your own personal circumstances in front of a football club in that position. So you're basing your argument on 1 betting site you saw where Barnsley were favourites to finish last, compared to the one I saw where they're predicted to finish last? He signed an 18 month extension 2 years ago and then rejected improved terms last season. The club should have sold him last summer or in the Jan window if they wanted a fee.

What's the difference between a player refusing to sign a new contract and a player running down his contract? I've no idea why he wasn't sold last summer/in January, you only have to assume Locks refused to move as I can't see our owners turning down a transfer fee then letting leave on a free.

It's quite possible that no-one would pay for him and so the only way he could get a move was to be 'free' and this was agreed with the club and GC. We got another half season from him which helped us ensure our League one status, and he got a move at the end of it. I've already wished him good luck earlier in the thread and the way he always put himself on the line for the club has earned my respect and thanks. I hope it works out well for him.

Extra Extra: International Footballer Harboured Ambition to Play Above Midtable Third Tier Shocker ..............International Footballer, cough. Lockyer is weak physically and not big enough physically, was always too young to be captain. I never, ever saw him galvanising the defense... If you are all fawning over his part in the promotions then what about the rest of the team.

So he harboured ambition to move, to see if he can play at a higher level? Why shouldn't he?
He played his heart out for us during this time. If you want to criticise someone who didn't want to be here and took the opposite approach to Tom, have a word with that waster who Tranmere have just signed.
Tom Lockyer has left this club with his head held high.
