Did he think his actions were an appropriate thing to do? From what I've heard he's apologised to everyone and shown nothing other than remorse. Nobody is defending his behaviour - however poor his morals on the night in question he never committed a crime and yet lost several years of his freedom. Fair enough if you want to set a very high moral tariff for any new signings, I've no problem with that, but do you not think he was punished enough? Losing several years of his life due to an inappropriate, drink fuelled but not illegal activity? It seems very much like CJ is defending his behaviour.
We all make bad mistakes - some more so than others, but we're not all role models to kids supporting whatever club you play for.

There was NO actual CCTV showing her "out of it". That is complete BS.
Instead there was actual CCTV footage...
1) Showing her pay for a pizza takeaway with cash which included coinage - showing she was able to count her money, If she was "out of it", she wouldn't have been able to do that. 2) Showing her able to get in and out of a car unaided and walk into a hotel unaided while wearing high heels, which according to my wife, is not easy to do when "out of it". Oh and while holding a pizza box in one hand too.
These are actual facts.
Also think about this. If she was "out of it" then how was she able to consent to Clayton McDonald, who she had sex with just before Ched Evans got in on the act? You can't be sober enough to consent to have sex with one person then immediately claim to be "out of it" to be able to consent to the next person.
Now the only thing Ched is guilty of was cheating on his missus and she not only forgave him for that but supported him through his trial and dedicated herself to prove his innocence.
Why are you so keen to defend this man who felt that his actions, no matter whether she was "out of it" or not, were an appropriate thing to do?
Why did Evans, upon receiving a text from McDonald saying "I've got a bird" head to the hotel at all - irrespective of whether you buy his claim of going to tell McDonald that one of their pals had been arrested? It sounds like he's a certain type of character, and like geddongas , I'd be mortified if we signed him. I am not defending Evans actions. He cheated on his missus. I stated that in my comment. But what I am defending was quite self explanatory in my comment to be honest.
geddongas made some false accusations about Evans which I wanted to put straight. He said Evans raped someone. No he didn't rape anyone. He said there was actual CCTV footage showing she was out of it. No there wasn't CCTV footage showing she was out of it! That's what I am defending.
I have seen various CCTV footage showing she was not out of it.
I have seen the girl in question put on her social media saying she was looking forward to a good pay out and what she was going to do with the money.
You mention his character. The fact that his missus has forgiven him and supported him, even when he was wrongly convicted, to me shows what type of character he is. He must have something good about him to have that kind of loyal support from her. Yes he made a mistake by cheating on his missus. We all make mistakes. He would have learnt a massive lesson from that and I bet he would be a better person for it after what he's been through. The way I see it is if his missus can forgive and forget then the rest of us should just move on as their relationship is nothing to do with us. The fact that you are judging someone's character on 1 mistake which was cheating on his missus and then using that mistake against him saying you would be mortified if we signed him, suggests more about your character than his. I would put money on it that we've had many players play for us who has cheated on their partner. I would put money on it that we've had players who has done worse. And I bet if someone like Ollie Clarke came out and admitted he cheated on his missus, you wouldn't demand he left the club or be mortified about it. So what's the difference? The girl in question who accused him has been found out to be a liar and unfortunately for Evans, that took the justice system a long time to work out. I have no issues with Evans signing for us. I think he would be a brilliant signing. He made a mistake, he paid a very high price for that mistake doing prison time for a crime he didn't commit. A football career is short and his time has been made even shorter due to a girl falsely accusing him of something he didn't do.
So, I am not defending his actions. He cheated and that was wrong.
But I will defend him and anyone else against false accusations of a serious crime.
I will also not judge him on the mistake he made by cheating on his missus as that's none of my business.
I will not judge him on a wrongly convicted crime, especially when there is so much evidence in his favour, which I have seen.
And it says a lot about people's characters who do judge people on the above.
Good day to you Sir.

I wonder how many others have had sex whilst drunk and with a drunk woman ? Another example of trial by the mob. People really should read up on the case and then comment. Having read the transcripts that are available, he was very badly judged in the first case. Sadly, he will be tarnished for life now, regardless of the eventual overturn of verdict The media reporting at the time was an absolute disgrace. It was so clearly a poor verdict and normally even a sniff of injustice sees the media all over it - even if it's a technicality getting a terrorist or murderer off the hook. Becuse it was a footballer and a frenzy existed at the time about a desire to increase rape convictions nobody was willing to break from the PC masses and question the outcome. I remember at the time thinking something odd had gone on and it was very difficult to find any reporting of facts, everything was skewed to portray the nasty rapist rich footballer. The facts of the case including transcripts had to be made public on a website set up by Evans' supporters - even though it was purely facts as available to the courts public gallery there was a big effort to stop it being available. All three parties involved behaved in a morally deplorable manner but no crime was committed. One out of the three lost several years of freedom which remains an absolute scandal Here here!

'Holier Than Thou' springs to mind here. Are you a Baptist Minister or something? Nope, just don’t want my potential daughters to grow up in a world where this sort of behaviour is normalised / looked upon so softly. it’s just as it disproportionately effects women. It’s easy to teach young men not to take advantage of drunk women, yet as a society we so readily blame female victims for what men do very regularly with no repercussions. Rape cases are extremely hard to nail down and so many get quashed because of lack of evidence whether they happen or not. Whether that’s happened in this case I do not know, but it wouldn’t surprise me if the original verdict was the correct one and now simply enough doubt has been cast on it to quash it. Either way, I’d personally not want the club to be linked to it because it is still so contentious. Note Edit: Although having looked at some more details of the CCTV i will admit she doesn’t look that out of it. Maybe Ched himself was victimised and I was wrong. But the point still stands that too many people are compassionate to men on the grounds of them being good at something (in the states there are way too many cases where rich kids with scholarships get off with full on sexual assault charges). I will hold my hands up though and say I was too far the other way. Sorry Ched. If you sign for us please score 25 goals this season. I just got to this post with your edit about Ched, so forgive my previous comments! I agree with you also about what you say regarding rape cases in general. Unfortunately there are a high number of women who falsely accuse men of rape and they are the ones who make it even harder for actual rape victims to come forward and be believed. And when this happens, the men get named and shamed when they are innocent and the accuser gets anonymity (however you spell it).

Can you point out where you think I was very much defending his behaviour, in any comment? Thanks. Anyone who defends his behaviour of cheating on his missus is a fool which is an understatement. So as you have a pretty low opinion of me based on what I can only guess is your bad interpretation of what I said, I look forward to your apology. Cheers in advance.

Good player but not worth it as his signing would split the fanbase more than the tinpot kids cup.

Good player but not worth it as his signing would split the fanbase more than the tinpot kids cup. Among our number we have people who like to punch police horses, racially abuse opposition goalkeepers, sing songs about letting our striker shag their wives, barge their way onto the team coach to spit and snarl abuse etc.........yet take a moral high ground over a potential signings nocturnal activities. Only in football ehh!

Ched Evans raped someone. He got an overturned ruling in a very strange case within which most of the evidence they had against this 19 year old woman would have been inadmissable in most courtrooms. His legal team was very very expensive and very skilled at finding technicalities to get his conviction overturned. There is actual concrete CCTV showing her completely out of it, he should have known. We should not be saying ‘it’s her fault for being drunk, ched has served his time as he’s a good footballer’. We should be holding footballers and men in general responsible as role models and say ‘Don’t rape women, and don’t take advantage of very drunk people who are vulnerable.’ If we signed Ched Evans i’d be very very upset at the club. We are a community based club and that signing would damage our reputation in the footballing world and the local community. Just to remind you that a. she wasn't "out of it" as video footage proved and B before you mention we cannot sign him because we are a community club, may I remind you that Ellis Harrison was accused of rape.

So, Rovers media dept have been eagerly scanning the forum for good ideas and have seen the favourable response to this player unveiling method. Thus the announcement of the latest signing has been delayed until we’re on Irish soil...and whilst we can’t run to a convertible and a sunspecced CEO to meet them at the airport we can send the tea lady on a tandem wearing a kiss-me-quick hat. Of course said player will be expected to assist in pedalling back to the training facility and will probably rupture something in the process...but at least the club is moving with the times.

Technically you are right... but I wanted to get a sideswipe in about our ability to sign instantly or already crocked players...and the tandem was a vehicle to that end
