With all due respect what do we know? I recall this place being very excited about Smith and Slocombe and they turned out to be a proper waste of money.
This guy certainly seems a mixed bag, not impressed by the bulk of his appearances being in that hot bed of football, South Africa, but having said that his time at Reading sounds positive and At our level I’d rate shot stopping as more important than distribution. So swings and roundabouts. I just hope one of them can hold a candle to Bonham because my worry is that we missed out big time on a top 6 quality keeper there.

Reading fans praising his shot stopping on twitter but questioning his distribution (imo that’s nothing to worry about at this level, if he’s a bog standard/good league 1 level keeper that will do nicely). Welcome Anssi! Also reassuring that we again have 2 permanent senior keepers - appears to be more good business by Coughlan credit where it’s due.
Exactly, that's all you hear about in the prem with their keepers, distribution!!!!
Like you say, at this level, we won't be playing out from the back. One big kick down field, that'll do nicely.
The main thing is IMO shot stopping, if he's good at this then I'll be more than happy.

We've gone and signed a (only) top 7 quality goalie. Disaster.

Permanent Goalkeepers at 6”4 and 6”7? That will do just nicely. What about ability? Does that come into it at all? Ooooh Matron.

Agree that his shot stopping ability is more important than his distribution, but this league is better than it is given credit for IMO. The better sides do play a bit of football, which is what makes a midfielder who is prepared to take the ball from his defenders and get the thing on the deck a vital signing for us. If we play hoofball, I think we will struggle. All in all though, the signings look pretty good so far. Just need to think about how we impose ourselves on others, rather than solely how we stop them.

Sounds the same as Bonham - more than happy with Bonham's standard To be fair, at this level, what are you gonna do with a keeper who can pick a pin-point pass at 40 yards. Ping it out to the FB, who most of the time passes it inside to one of our CBs, who then just hoofs it up field, anyway. Play him in the middle as the creative playmaker we need ?

Looks a good signing. Was battling it out for the no.1 spot at Reading last year and by all accounts didn't look out of place doing so. Welcome Anssi.

Just need to think about how we impose ourselves on others, rather than solely how we stop them. We don't need a keeper who can flick over attackers heads or do Cruyff turns in the six yard box. As long as he can keep it in play with goal kicks and roll or throw a ball to someone 30 yards away then that's enough. Keep it out the bloody net first and foremost!
