That was an enjoyable afternoon, first game of pre season, surrounded by friends and family, with plenty of goals, good weather and a chance to check out a fair few of the first team squad. There really is no point summarising each player given the ease of the victory and scoreline, but I must give a special mention to Gavin Reilly. A player that’s been out more than in, with regards to his playing time but from the very first minute of the second half today (when he came on) I thought his movement off the ball & sharpness today was exceptional with some extremely clinical finishing. Nichols & Ollie Clarke also scored some fine goals.
I would however be very worried if I were a Yate Town chairman, given the gulf in quality and ultimately scoreline. This was a great payday for YTFC with a great crowd of young and old, but if you are GC would you really want to take the entire first team (bar one or two) along to many pre season games where a cricket World Cup score will be registered? Who knows. I did honestly think we would have been given a bit more of a test today. The Yate players will soon be entering the Southern Premier league and most of their lads looked absolutely knackered after 50mins.
Still, roll on Ireland (where I’ll unfortunately miss out) and then Bath Away.

Oh forgot to mention I was stood next to Aidy Britton for the game, we were chatting away, nice bloke - great analysis of players. He did some scouting for us last season.
Of course I had no idea who he was, he mentioned he “managed bath city for 8 years and left 2 years ago” - I had to google him after 😂
Lovely bloke though, over heard some interesting conversations with what seemed to be some scouts/coaches.
Not a bad couple of days, Coughlan on Friday & Britton on Saturday!

Fair enough, he didn’t mention that! Said he wasn’t doing much for work at the moment, waiting to see what arises

I wouldn’t get too excited about the score line. We did well against Melksham last season (and we all know what followed that) but at least Nichols scored this time! Think Bennett scored a hat trick last year!

Warning signs were there in our last friendly at home to Exeter last season.

Not being critical but one thing no-one else mentioned... warm day, early pre-season, and our players basically played 45 mins each whereas theirs played more mins. Only made 6 subs. And their website adds that they "came into the game after only a couple of training sessions"
A recipe for a second half tonking.
