You know, I agree on some levels, and everything is still very much a work in progress and TG is doing a great job IMO in increasing revenue and introducing new marketing formats and he hasn’t had it easy in the last year. I also think the supporters club could do so much more, but they are suffering from a lack of vision also and predominantly the reason for that is there is no young or dynamic minds driving it. Most of the initiatives revolve around dinner and dance evenings. It’s so old school and unimaginative. As an example, Just look at their new website. It’s atrocious. It’s a copy and paste Wordpress site with absolutely no ranking behind it. It’s clunky, disorganised, full of content which is out of date which has been dragged across from the old site. My wife who is marketing and PR at director level for a big company was actually stunned that a professional had not only designed it, but thought it was good enough to go live. And yet they all seemed rather chuffed with it. Which is a shame because they could do so much more promotion via SM and the website. Not sure the supporters club website really has anything to do with the OP criticising the club's own media channels? As far as shirts are concerned a few fans my buy them to go on holiday but I bet the vast majority are sold once the season actually gets underway.

Do adults really queue up in their droves in 2019, to be the first to get their hands on the brand new home or away strips, before the seasons first ball has even been kicked?

And if it's not back to the proper quarters instead of that awful thing from last season it'll be an even shorter queue.

I loved it - quarters with a bit of a twist. Agree that we shouldn’t stray too far from the quarters though.

I’m led to believe next seasons shirt will honour the 30th anniversary of the title winning season. So expect V neck, ‘proper quarters’, solid blue back & who knows, the old badge might even make a seasons cameo. This could all be rubbish of course, but an exciting idea to consider nonetheless.

Not disagreeing with your post but pretty sure the website was created by a volunteer with no experience of web design at all. At the time they asked round many members but nobody came forwards to help. The site is by weblake a wordpress development specialist. Even if it was a freebie, you would be better off assigning some of the budget to do it properly. The rewards the other way would be far greater. That's just the template provider. I don't disagree by the way, just clarifying that one point.

I have been spending the morning looking at websites, youtube pages and general social media from other clubs. Now I understand Rovers budget is not massive, but I cannot help being surprised at the lack of media content, branding and promotion that is available. Season after season the Rovers kit is not released until open day while other clubs are releasing teasers and getting fans excited. In fact many have released there kits already. However Rovers have to wait to inflate a bouncy castle till the big reveal happens. Also many clubs have interviews with new signings, managers or footage of the club returning to training. Rovers have nothing. I think Rovers really need to look at the things they can do to make the club looks more professional as we do have a terrible reputation for being "rag bag rovers". This does not have to mean spending big money. There are many ideas that can be done on a budget. Sadly Bristol City over the last few years are pulling further and further ahead in every way. Generally I think we are much are better at the media side of the club than we were pre Al Qadi, but I do agree we could do a lot more in improving our image. I honesty believe we should promote more of the 1883 & The Gas branding onto our leisurewear, merchandise etc. The new shop is a great improvement on the old one but instead of calling it a boring Bristol Rovers superstore , give it a name like the Gasworks ,Gasworld etc. Also hope now that we have the new large tv screen & electronic advertising boards there is somehow at a reasonable cost a way for fans to put on announcements such as birthdays ,engagements retirements etc, which also be a financial benefit to the club.

Think the club need to look and replicate there branding like in America, New York yankees for instance a global brand that people wear and see as fashionable, same for other nfl, nba etc. When you look at our branding and badge it’s pretty crap to be fair.

I’m all for proper quarters, I just liked last season’s shirt as to me it kept in keeping with quarters but with a slightly different take (appreciate some thought too much white). Having a shirt to commemorate THAT season is a great idea (not sure if Design Windows is still around though - was that the sponsor at the time??).

Appreciate your point of view, but I have some issues with that. Firstly you absolutely cannot compare Bristol Rovers to the New York Yankees, as only if we became a footballing powerhouse in the Champions League would we ever have the potential to be "fashionable" on the world stage like the Yankees are. Secondly I genuinely think our badge is very professional and slick. It's neat, clean cut, modern, bold and not cheesy like some. My opinion of course though. We could do with advertising better to the youngsters in Bristol but let's face it, with the riches and audiences the PL gets, the likes of a second rate 3rd tier club of attracting fanfare because of rebranding are very slim and would be far secondary to actually being successful on the pitch.

Tell that to 2nd tier St. Pauli who are the fourth biggest club in Germany in terms of merchandise revenue after Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Schalke. thesetpieces.com/world-football/st-pauli-punk-club-commercial-appeal/

I’m in Barcelona and have been wearing my Rovers hat on the beach so that might help convert a few 😂. I did wonder if any Sabadell fans might be around and notice but nothing yet. Still a few days to go though.

When was the last time you were genuinely excited by something the club done or a player signed? For me it was when we got planning permission for UWE and when we re-signed Paul Randall. Not a lot in 40 odd yrs ! 😂

It’s because Pauli’s merchandise started off as an organic thing that became cool with the politics and the totenkopf. That’s been jumped on by the likes of under armour and Levi. Rovers will never, ever get to that stage so the comparison is similar to that of Rovers and the yankees. We can certainly learn from Pauli and their use of the totenkopf. Our merchandise is the same as every other club despite having such a strong brand. I mentioned this four years ago in the merchandising committee but it was pretty pointless.

Great start for a newbies first post. A common theme seems to be developing here, sign up to the forum and slag the club off. As has been said, several interviews have been released of new signings and others. Instead of worrying when the new kit will be released, what thoughts do you have on GC's team rebuilding etc etc etc? i smell
