Not overly worried. Right now I think we're in decent shape. Absolutely need a winger winger and another striker. Do think something must be close on the latter as I doubt we'd of released Payne without that knowledge. Pretty sure we'd habe let Payne go to anyone who wanted him at the time they wanted him. Don't look a carthorse in the mouth, so to speak. Or a gift horse. Agree about Payne, sooner gone the better.

We are flying with RyanAir I know Payne cost a fair wedge but could we not afford a flight that has a chance of leaving on time...

Still think we need some creativity in the centre of the park. Can’t see OC and Ogogo creating much. Be nice to see Sercs back in the middle if no one new comes in. I do think we are lacking that bit of creativity in the middle I just don’t think Sercombe is the man to provide it, sercombe is far better getting himself in and around the box and scoring goals. I do think we have a player that could potentially offer us that creativity already in the squad, Luke russe. Every time I have seen him play he seems like he has the ability to control the tempo of the game and has an eye for a pass

Whilst the manager and players are in Dublin I would be surprised if we announce any signings unless it is the Irish central defender. Currently we have two senior central defenders and two young ones who will both want to push on with game time this season, so unless Liam Scales is already a class above what we currently have then fitting him in will not be easy. I do not understand the situation with DM has he signed, or at least verbally agreed to sign or it still up in the air. For whatever reason we seem to be wading through treacle when it comes to obtaining signatures for attacking players.

But he is young and in say 2 or 3 years we could get a good fee for him. We would all say "good business "

We would all say "good business " Yes it would be good business if he is absolutely better than what we have, if not he is likely to stagnate on the bench with little game time and little or no future sell on value. The fact that Man City were interested in him for their Under 23 side suggests he could be very good

Tbh if we sign Scales then that leaves our CBS at:
Davies Craig Kilgour Manayese Scales
Menayese & another would need to go out in loan I’d suggest, I can’t imagije it being Scales if we just signed him tbh. All 3 of Kilgour, Menayese & Scales will beer & want first team football somewhere

I assume GC’s thinking is they’ll have a season or so alongside craig to teach them the ropes and then we’ll end up next season with 2 mentored young CBs that could turn out well and be a lucrative sale in future. But i agree, i’d like at least 2 properly experienced CBs there.

Craig / Davies should be fine, but not much back up experience wise though as you say. Hasn’t Davies played quite a few games at this level Pirate?

Surely Davies is quite an experienced centre half? if Scales can also cover left back then with THDs injury record I can see it being quite a sensible signing. However there is little doubt that we still require 3 or 4 attacking playersto give us any chance of improving on last season and these signings were always going to be both the important ones and the most difficult ones to obtain. it would be disappointing if a team like Oxford could get Ched Evans and we coulodn't.

Davies: 19 starts in League One and 57 starts in League Two in total at the age of 27.

All 3 of Kilgour, Menayese & Scales will beer & want first team football somewhere Apart from Craig, that is a serious lack of experience at this level. Whilst I agree at face value it does look short of League one standard experience, we do also have some versatility with our full backs as Little has and can also play CB and he has a wealth of experience at this and a higher level. I also think that although potentially injured, THD will have a big role to play (as will Little) in nurturing the younger talent. We also have Kelly at LB who is still raw and young but he did play a decent amount of games last season in League One for us so he will have benefited from that... I think we may see Craig and Davies starting at CB with Little and if THD is injured then possibly Kelly at RB and LB. With Clarke and Ogogo and or Upson with Sercs and Rodman (assuming we go 4-4-2 diamond) then I think we’ll be ok... the issue for me is then who plays alongside JCH . I think Nichols is technically gifted and a good foil but he lacks the goals. If he can start the season well w getting a couple of early goals in the season then his confidence will be up and I think he’ll do well as he’s a confidence player. The question is if he doesn’t then who plays alongside JCH as at the moment we have an over reliance on JCH to get goals. If we want to play 4-4-2 with wingers then in the current squad it’ll be Bennett and Rodman wide and that does then leave our back line exposed.... if we had a fully fit squad a back line of THD, Craig, Davies and Little would be more than fine... At the moment we do lack creativity in the midfield, the one or 2 players who could create something out of nothing a bit like Bodin did for us. But those types of players tend to lack consistency generally and fade in and out of games which we generally don’t appreciate on this forum and they tend to be streak players... Personally I think signing scales if we can get him would be a good move as a signing with one eye on the future... It’s make or break season for Meyanese .... if he doesn’t break into the 1st team this season then I can see him going permanently in Jan as it would be 3 seasons out on loan (assuming he goes on loan this season again if he doesn’t make the 1st team match day squads). Kilgour, Hare will be 1st team squad players this season in my eyes and I can see Scales going out on loan if we do sign him as I think he’d be a signing as prep for next season....
