Yes, agree LMW, But is it just the one on here or there others? Their forum wasn’t complimentary about him a month or so back but I haven’t checked since we signed him. Mind, you comparing him with SP made me shudder. 😨 UTG! Just comparable in the comments about him, and Leahy didnt tell the fans to * off! No he didn't, but you should hear what he says about them in private!

Some really interesting and positive stats. Just to temper this, they do go on to say that his numbers are 'below average' defensively, but potentially looks like an exciting signing. Agreed. Sounds like more of a wingback to me than a fullback - wonder if we’ll see GC try out 352 at some stage. We do have the players for this now, with Little or Hare and Leahy or THD able to play the wing back role. It also brings Kilgour into the reckoning, something that I would think GC would be keen to do. It would also enable the three man central midfield defensive shield GC seems to favour, or play just two of them with Sercombe for attacking balance. It's a system I've always liked, but it needs decent wing backs who can get up.and back quickly to make it work.

Thinking on this some more and we have some good veteran leadership in this team that has been around the game a long time even if their number of appearances doesn't always show it, and I wonder if this is the ideal landing spot for him to sort out whatever off the field issues he faced at Walsall.
Judging by his assist numbers, it wouldn't shock me if he played LM once Kelly and THD return to fitness. Or a 3-5-2 which would make sense with us being linked to Scales.

So a virtual ever present for you the last two seasons is the main reason you were relegated last season? He’s been part of the two worst Walsall defences in my lifetime. He’s good going forward - but is absolutely atrocious defending wise. To be fair though SC you were crap through the whole team from November onwards. I watched you lot 4 times last year, and in the 3 games I remembered, you got a lucky goal against us against the mem and offered nothing going forward and most of the time through the second half we produced the most chances. One of the main providers for the goal was Leahy. And you kept a clean sheet. The spanking we gave you at the Bescot you had nothing in the middle and we ran through you most of the game. It was one of those games where we were just unplayable. Doesn’t happen often with us. The home win win you had against Coventry Leahy scored a last min penalty and a winner and provided most crosses and completed passes for that game. In in the FA cup second round fixture against Sunderland (which was the best I saw you play as a team) where Leahy played as an LWB he had a great game keeping a clean sheet as well as an outlet often getting the better of Maguire and McGeoch which is no mean achievement. If anything it was Leahy who was surrounded by 9 other let downs. That’s just from 4 games I’ve seen.

Been nice knowing you Luke... You could not make it up. Some writing a player off, who has been a virtual ever present in league two for the last two seasons. He's a young lad, so this old git is quite prepared to accept he likes a night out, as no doubt other players in our squad do. Surely he's been an ever present in league one for the last two seasons.....

If LL’s game going forward is above par but his defending needs a bit of work then what better manager to work with than GC.

It seems clear that coughlan wants full backs who can get forward and leahy seems like a straight replacement for holmes-dennis. In theory and based on his career until now little should offer something going forward as well the lad hare according to reports about him. I think the intent to get forward from full back and offer much needed width is encouraging.

Just saying. To a man they don't rate him and I'm sure they have seen much more of him than you have? I don't care about the opinions of Walsall fans. Or their Manager...........

But this makes me cross!
'Appearing forty times in Sky Bet League One last season, Leahy contributed heavily to his side's attacking intent from full-back, providing a number of assists throughout the season and scoring three times.'
He's a bluddy LB and they were relegated, conceding 71 goals, 21 more than us!! I couldn't care a toss if our FBs show 'attacking intent', just do your number one job and stop the opposition from scoring!

I hope this doesn't mean THD's injury is serious and he was always being looked at for competition for the LB role.
Decent League One left back from what I've seen/read and was deemed good enough to be their first choice left back for 2 seasons straight so looks a good signing.
Welcome Luke.

We nearly got relegated because we created so few chances per game last season. A lot of that was because we had Kelly and JC at fullback - how many crosses into the box per game do you reckon they got compared to Brown/Leadbitter in previous years? Your defence can be the best in the league (ours was away from home) but if you don’t have attacking intent you will draw/lose games. Just the way the modern game is.

And? Do I care? Nah. He's so bad he got 17 assists in the past 2 seasons for them. Just saying. To a man they don't rate him and I'm sure they have seen much more of him than you have? Seriously, that has no balance whatsoever.
Young lad, enjoyed his mates, when he had the gift of talent. This isn't abnormal, despite being football gifted, and we may well have the lad at a good time of his life, as he begins to understand and mature.
To a man the gas fans need to make their own judgements on his performances and behaviour, welcome him and support him.

Walsall fan in peace. Like someone commented above you probably don't give a stuff on my opinion...but I'll give it anyway.
Luke Leahy is possibly the worst left back I have ever seen at Walsall in 30+ years that has played so many games. His positional sense is atrocious - he just doesn't understand where he should be on the pitch when facing an opponent or if they have possession.
I can understand why he may impress from certain stats and in a trial, as technically he can strike a ball well. The crosses stat is misleading though - most go out of play or aren't anywhere near the forwards. I've never seen a player put so many free kicks straight into touch. Thats how poor our manager was that didn't recognise this and take him off duty. He did it 2 or 3 times at your place last year.
Yes he was part of a poor team, that was very badly organised defensively so any organisation will help, but he was still personally and directly responsible for so many goals from unforced errors and that will still happen in a decent defence.
Worse still he would then visibly blame and berate others for his mistakes and caused terrible disharmony in the squad. A egotistical bad apple based on nothing but his own opinion of himself.
Having said all that, he is clearly suited to one position - wing back. If you play that and he can be taught how to cross then you may get lucky. Otherwise, good luck!
I'm just glad he's gone, whatever level we are playing at.
PS. He scored one penalty against his old club, but missed others by hitting them ALL weakly to the keeper's right. Look out for that if he takes one for you.

Personally, if we fail to get in a quality left winger I think there is merit in a 5-3-2 provided we can spend more time in the attacking half with the wing backs being allowed forward and not being pushed back to a flat five!

Funny how you rarely see a player so universally condemned by a fanbase for solely his contribution on the pitch, yet he was virtually ever-present for 2 years, and now brought in by a manager who, we've seen, actually knows about defence.
Will be interesting to find out the truth.
