This afternoon I met up with my best mate who is a shithead for a drink along Glos rd.
We popped to the Mem as I wanted to go to our shop to buy a shirt, but it was closed when we got there.
Anyway we had a quick look around the Mem and he said while its a dated stadium it has such a unique character and feel about it.
We both agreed that if we could build a Lansdown 2 tier like stand where the Blue stand is 7- 10k and a Atyeo sized stand where the south stand is then then we could keep the West stand and Blackthrone end as they are and have a great looking ground that could hold 20-24k.
I know Glos Rd lefties/Rose are the problem,as is parking. But there is a huge area still at Mem for development if funding could be found.
If planning was granted how much would that construction cost? £10-£15m. I hope its been looked at.

Didn't either Wael or Hamer say redeveloping the Mem is not an option?

Eventually the Mem rebuild will happen. It’s going to take a considerable amount of money and about 5 years for our owners to realise this though. We know Bristol.

I have to agree with this - they say it wont happen, but the options are just demoralising. I would prefer an 18,000 - 20,000 mem option. Traffic parking sustainability blah. Couple of good bars and quality conference style affordable space double the crowds many other clubs above us can do it and make it work. Sure a spankers stadium sounds amazing, but the mem with a couple of proper new stands, perfect for me. I wouldn't have swapped Eastville for anything.

when you put it like that it all sounds so simple, i dont know why or if the owners have dismissed the idea of redevelopment, perhaps they see to many hurdles in the way ,my own take is 'where there's a will there' a way,and that is the key!also a 20 million project would be easier to 'crowd fund'than a 50 million one,!like the OP i to have a best mate who is a red,in this age of diversity and tolerance of people who are different we must accept these people are entitled to be what they want!also he is of the old school teds not one of the Lansdown's jump on the band wagon modern mob!!

It's been a while since the left have been blamed for us having a sh1te ground, and I for one welcome it's return.

I think it’s more about the economics behind renovating the Mem rather than the engineering practicalities.
2 seasons playing away, losing already limited parking spaces, restrictions on ability to generate non match day income etc.

It could well be that a rebuild of the Mem will be the option that we take as we'll have no alternative. The two main stands can't have much life left in them before they fall down anyway. Surely the rust in the west stand needs treating at some point.
All our owners have tried to excite us with dreams of new stadiums. They underestimate the misty eyed emotion that rovers fans would feel if we were ever to see one brick being laid upon another at our home ground.

...and potentially unfavourable Transport Impact Assessments, Environmental Impact Assessments, Rights of Light issues on the southern and western side, etc. Lots of potential grief and lots of money could be spent achieving nothing or only very small increase in the ground capacity making the capital outlay disproportionate to the returns.

If our iconic tents get dismantled I’ll boycott! Can we get a new faux tent end at our new stadium? Seriously I don’t get where people get this idea that we won’t be able to get a new site from, especially when there are rumours we have secured a new brown field site close to the city centre

Sorry if I've missed the irony in your comment

The crucial divide in the politics of development isn’t between left and right, but between people who own homes and those who don’t. NIMBYs happen regardless of political stripe.

A Bristolian billionaire was unable to find a suitable site for a stadium build. We’ve been trying unsuccessfully for 40 years to do the same. Surely there can’t be many Rovers fans who truely believe it will happen. I see us maybe building one new stand at the Mem.

A shithead for a mate ? Can you convert from his terrible affliction ? I'm pretty sure once they identify as a shithead it's too late for any kind of treatment. All they can do is prescribe something to help numb the pain.
