It is no coincidence that players whom leave us almost always mention the 'fantastic facilities' at their new clubs.... For the latest examples of this see both SC and JC's press conferences after joining Walsall.. Walsall mind.. Walsall! Our ground is an absolute dump in it's current guise and anyone who honestly does not think that it is holding us back is very mistaken. It's also no coincidence that every player who joins us says the Manager "sold" the club to me and what a great fan base there is and a very intimate intimidating atmosphere there is in the stadium. I have never heard one single player say he signed despite the crap facilities, tents and poor training ground. I would hazard a guess that there is not a single fan who complains about the tents have ever been in one. If the Mem is a "dump" I for one have had many happy memories here. I have had many poor experiences in dumps at away grounds. York, Macclesfield, Hereford, Kidderminster Alfreton to name a few. Sadly all the grounds you've mentioned are now non league - where ultimately we will end up again - the 'stadium' is a dump and unsustainable in the long term as a Football League Ground.

The atmosphere stood at The Mem. The 'atmosphere' sat at, say, Ipswich Town. No-brainer.

Yeah I for one really enjoy the Mem as it does have a lot of character, and we’ve had a fair bit of history here. Ups and downs. But as much as I love a bit of antiquity and character, the upkeep costs on this ground are allegedly rather a lot. I don’t know how as it’s just steel and concrete paving but there we go. We absolutely need a new facility to play games and house non-matchday income streams. No high-paying business wants to hold conferences in an old run down room, they want state-of-the-art nowadays. We have to deliver on that front just as well as the playing side if we’re going to be successful going forward. That said, I will miss the terraces. Safe standing perhaps?

As far as traston hate goes it's not just a football stadium it's a arena for all things sport and entertainment Plus conferencing. Which is what we need to aim for and exceed as just having a new stadium at the Mem won’t be sustainable, and we will never be able to do those things at a redeveloped Mem. Regards whatever York are doing? Whatever Southend are doing? Luton? Wimbledon? It’s still plans and they have been in the pipeline sometimes for almost as long as we have been trying to improve our facilities.

The infrastructure within the stadium (Electrical systems, plumbing etc ) Are horrendous to maintain to current standards........

Well I hate it and think its an embarrassment . I love the location of the mem.. but it just doesn’t feel like a football ground to me . Will always ‘ spiritually ‘ belong to Bristol rugby club utg Then why did the rugby club abandon it to play at Trashton? They’re supporters hardly kicked up any fuss when it happened.

At least they have plans, it says it all at Rovers that all we have are fans saying “you never know they *might* be working on something in the background” when we all know by now post UWE-collapse is that there is sweet FA going on behind the scenes. Never mind there will be a website update shortly before we sell JCH for a pittance to tell us that they have hired some new consultants to work on an as yet unspecified project and the fan base will once again be pacified and rocked back to sleep.

Attendances have risen but they now play in red and are called ‘The Bears’ their supporters don’t seem to bothered, maybe that’s just rugby fans.

I have had many poor experiences in dumps at away grounds. York, Macclesfield, Hereford, Kidderminster Alfreton to name a few. I was once walking past the tip down on the Feeder (abacus) at approx 7.00pm one evening when I heard a bell ringing.. I looked into the tip and spotted a little kitten wondering around looking very distressed, after some 20 mins or so of beckoning I managed to get the kitten over to me and I grabbed him through the gap in the gate. Understandably the cat was in a real state, shaking and just not happy at all! I was eventually able to calm the cat down and just as I was starting to think about what on earth I was going to do with this poor cat that I had just rescued from the tip a car pulled up alongside me and out jumped a young child and her parents with looks of sheer joy on their faces.. It turned out that this family was having some work done at their house by some builders whom whilst clearing rubbish from site had completely accidentally managed to take the family cat to the dump (they think he must have jumped in when they were loading up unbeknown to them) . When the builders got to the tip and started to empty their load said cat sprung out of the back of the van and disappeared into the tip before they could do anything it and despite their best efforts they could not beckon the cat back out.... Alas, the builders returned to the property and had the horrible task of explaining to the distraught family that they had essentially skipped the beloved family pet! The family did what I guess anyone would do and jumped straight into their car armed only with a can of tuna and headed to the tip to try and beckon their cat out themselves probably more in desperation than expectation, but in their situation, what else could they really do? So imagine their sheer elation to pull up at the tip fearing the worst only to spot a complete stranger who had seemingly already rescued their cat and was petting him to keep him calm. The family explained all of the above to me and thanked me profusely as you would imagine, we had a quick chat and then went on our own ways with one of us beaming with joy at the miraculous survival of their beloved family cat and me feeling pretty darn chuffed with myself and the good deed I had done. It is a story that will live with me for the rest of my days and the point of this story in this context? Even in an actual stinking, rodent infested dump you can still create lovely memories. Just because our stadium is a sh**hole it doesn't mean that we haven't been able to create fantastic memories that we will all hold forever, but please do not allow that sentiment to cloud the fact that our stadium is a dilapidated mess that is holding us back probably more than any of us appreciate.

I would say the point of the story is we know what it's like to feel like a helpless pussy that's been kidnapped and dumped in a tip. We just need to find the builder that got us in this mess

Then why did the rugby club abandon it to play at Trashton? They’re supporters hardly kicked up any fuss when it happened. And their attendances have doubled. The rugby club were already owned by Pantsdown, so it was obvious they would be moving to BS3. Many of their fans initially boycotted games; indeed some friends of mine only reluctantly attend these days.
They're attendances of course doubled they have been in the rugby premiership twice since he pumped his millions into them, he developed his "EGO" project to accommodate them.
I like the Mem; it needs massive work on the infrastructure as Henbury said but can be intimidating to opposition teams on a good day/night when the crowd get behind the team. Oxford have a better stadium than us & their atmosphere is sh*te.
Be careful what you wish for - UTG

As seems increasingly likely that we're going to be stuck at the Mem for the next 5-10 years (which will probably see me out) I feel a starter would be to demolish the eyesore Dribuild (or whatever they call it now) and replace with a semi - permanent covered stand covering the whole length of the east side of the ground. It would probably accomodate the best part of 2200 people (150 x 15 rows) and generate enough income over 3/4 years to pay for it. Just means a capital outlay (or even rent maybe) of £2 million or so - these structures are available.

Do people still have a competition in the bogs at half time? Who can water highest up the walls? I was king at that.

The (East Stand) eyesore as you call it is where hospitality is currently housed; and from where I sit gives some of the best views of the pitch in the ground. You would like to replace it with a semi-permanent structure. Where would hospitality, clubshop and Butcombe bar be relocated to, also the loss of terraced places would decrease not increase capacity? Not decrying your idea; but another tent style stand is not what we need in my opinion

Serious question...What was the latest with the training ground? It all seems to have gone awfully quiet.
