“How far we are from being competitive” In a non competitive, pre season friendly. My word. Injuries, a mixed side from us, full strength from them & a 30 degree evening, can’t say I’ll be getting too upset over this one. we brought on a kid who played in the u-16s last year and people are acting like we are going to be relegated. I’d be more worried if I was a Swansea fan they struggled to break us down until we brought on the youngsters. It was a nothing game with our key players being rested so they don’t get injured Everyone said “it’s only a friendly!” and gave all the excuses under the sun against Exeter last pre-season. Then it turned out we were actually sh** and had an awful season. So personally I’m not buying it that you can’t read anything into friendly performances and use them to judge the general competence of a group of players. Point taken that our yoof played a big part last night, but when you look at our transfer dealings it seems like we will be relying on yoof a lot this season so we can’t even point to that as a mitigating factor imo. Recruitment not good enough for me, like last pre-season and we may be relying on the two 12 point deductions to keep us up unless we make some major attacking signings which we don’t seem to have the money for.

Totally agree ... he was awful and an absolute liability tonight. B-b-b-but he looked “absolute quality” in his YouTube highlights video! He didn't. Most of his experience is in the amateur Dutch 4th tier where he conceded on average roughly 2 goals a game.

Fair point, but there's a big difference in quality between Birmingham/ Swansea and Exeter though.

Sarcasm aside I thought he looked okay but it was yet again an example of fans creaming themselves over a highlights video which is dangerous anyway but when it’s a goalkeeper it’s just plain daft. I’m disappointed generally about the squad seemingly weaker than last season but what was really criminal was losing Bonham. My personal feeling is that this will be what does for our survival hopes this season. Hope I’m wrong.

Fair point, but there's a big difference in quality between Birmingham/ Swansea and Exeter though. True but it seems that we have the same old problems as last season so whilst the opposition was better you would still think we should be creating chances against Swansea, especially if, as people are suggesting, it was only a friendly that Swansea weren’t taking seriously. The fact their keeper hardly touched the ball suggests that yet again we don’t create enough and we don’t have strikers who carry any sort of threat.

If pre season is such a huge indicator of the coming season, we won 10-0 & 7-0 back to back therefore we are going to win the title. With ease.

I thought after a good season he might have returned to Brentford or another smaller Championship side, and that I could understand. But to give up a certain first team place to join Gillingham is a mystery to me. I can't believe they can afford to pay him more than us, and Gillingham is hardly ideal for anything geographically. Maybe he saw more ambition in them than us.

And in those videos if you look at the scores you’ll see that Volendam were usually losing, sometimes heavily. That’s not to say it was all his fault and in the end I guess we will judge once the season starts and we play league and cup games. Perhaps some work for our new goalie coach! UTG!

I notice the 1982 vermin are 3-1 down to FGR having fielded a pretty near full strength XI.
I wonder if the Franchise tracksuit mob are having as big a hissy fit as some Gasheads.

Were they having a meltdown at 3-1 down and are they now indeed crowing about champions elect? Pre season results mean everything after all.

More likely to crow about beating a side twice last season, who ran us ragged last night I would suggest.

Given Wael is based in Jordan and can only spend so many days in the UK then what logic would there be in him being around this summer? Either GC's biding his time waiting to pick up the attacking players we clearly need or he hasn't the budget/waiting for Swindon to sign Bennett to free up funds. Funnily enough I was at the Kiefer Sutherland gig in Bristol on Monday night and me and a couple of mates were taking to Kiefer outside afterwards and I half expected Wael to pop up out of nowhere for a selfie. Seems to be the only time we hear from him nowadays...
