Not Swansea because DC said it wasn't his job to develop other clubs players. By some peoples logic that makes him a racist bigot as well given that Swansea is in Wales! Let me explain clearly that the above is tongue in cheek but you get my drift - hopefully? Racist? No, but xenophbic perhaps

Confirmed on Twitter by family members that it was said with tongue firmly in cheek to a journalist who then printed it!
What he should have said is that we don't want a schoolboy winger who plays in a League on a par with League Two!

I think everyone knows it was tongue in cheek- but that still doesn’t make it any less an ill-advised thing to say as the press will jump all over it for starters. I’m sure most in this thread, even those defending GC would not have said it themselves because anyone with a bit of nous knows that a comment like that was unnecessary and could be used against him/the club even if meant in jest. It’s basic media skills basically and I’m sure someone upstairs will have a gentle word.

GC is our Manager, has my full support and I'm sure he'll cope without yours.

Naïve comment by GC, but I hope that GC doesn't ever speak to, and the club refuses entry to the Mem for, this "journalist" in future

Listen to the banter between Brazil and McCoist on their breakfast shows and it is far worse than GC's comment and yet everyone knows it is just a laugh.

But GC is a well paid professional working at L1 in one of worlds top leagues. His comments were not racist, or offensive per se. What they were are stupid, pathetic and did not cast the club in a good light. Written warning

Can’t believe how serious people (especially the press) have taken this JOKE. Need to get a grip.

For as many unhappy Rangers fans (god knows anyone would even care), there will be even more happy Celtic fans. Written warning over this? F*ck me. Personally I'm glad GC is able to have a bit of banter & a joke with the press. It shows the relationship he has with them & the feeling in the squad. I'd much rather GC's interview style than John Ward's. No written warning, carry on as you are & ignore the children GC.

I have no idea which, or what sort of organisation you work for, but as a senior manager he has a responsibility to represent the club in a positive fashion, as in all reputable organisations. Making adolescent comments to the press when discussing potential (if imaginary) transfer targets makes the club look silly and unprofessional.

Hands up if you ever had a Rovers/ Celtic ski hat thing? Twerton Park days!
I've just ordered a dozen 50/50 scarves - Rovers/ Rangers - to show there's no ill-feeling. Gutted the bond between the two clubs has been damaged 😂🤣😂🤣
Scottish football is tinpot. And I couldn't give a hoot if someone is upset by GC's one-liner.

It's not the same as a normal organisation though, is it? You wouldn't expect a corporation to talk about under performing employees in the press, would you? You also wouldn't expect them to a written warning either for it, would you? Hell, you even get presidents/prime ministers say they won't trade with other specific businesses & countries. Do they get written warnings? A football club isn't the same as a normal organisation, if we start treating them like one though - then the fun of football will be dead. God forbid managers & players ever have any banter.

One minute people care about the clubs professional’s image, the next they lap up nonsense like this about our manager bringing up a rivalry that is nothing to do with us. Can’t have it all ways...
