Well done you can count. 😊 I can. And I also have the intelligence to give a player some time to bed in to a team before making a judgement. Jason Roberts, Rickie Lambert etc spring to mind. He's done ok for me. I'm not convinced we needed to sign a left back permanently, unless THD's situation is more serious than we think (another area that could have been dralt with by a short term loan, thus saving budget for a creative midfielder), but to write him off so soon is ridiculous. At the end of the season you may well be proved right. Who knows? But give the bloke a chance!

Got no choice but to get behind him at games but the more mistakes and poor he looks, the more other teams are going to target him. Play Kelly over him for me. No thrills or spills with Kelly but he's more reliable defensively.

Here’s Pirates tips from 24th April 2018 when asked which strikers he’d go for ;
Sergio Buenacasa Mart Lieder Streli Mamba Partick schmidt Petar Sliskovic Nuha Marong Macauley Chisantus (frees)
Sory Kaba Dani Aquino Manuel fischnaller Marcel platzek Sam Hendricks Alex Jones
So if someone has the time & inclination to trawl through that lot and see where they were about 18 months ago and where they are now and how there careers are progressing/ regressing it might be interesting? Are Pirates tips great or a load of rubbish ?
I can’t be arsed 😃

Marong now called up for his national team.

I don't know Widdrington's situation, but most scouts at this level work for peanuts and get paid petrol money (usually about 40p per mile). One of the most undervalued roles in the game. I'm sure Pirate knows this better than any of us, but Michael Calvin's book 'Nowhere Men' gives a really revealing look into this undervalued role. Features our own Gary Penrice too. Brilliant book. Also worth a read are 'Scouting for Moyes' and 'Geoff Twentyman: Secret Diary of a Liverpool Scout' www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/liverpool-fc-super-scout-geoff-twentymans-3446669

Surely Mr 50:50 was by far the worst. Who's that? Apologies, I was thinking Widdrington signings, not under GC.
Just under a year ago ........

No worries! RE Payne. The writing was on the wall after that photo!

It's true that a defender's primary role is to defend, but you cannot possibly judge a player fairly and accurately on four games. Yours is no more than a hunch at this stage. It might be proved right, it might not.

He has got some good assist stats but it sounds like he might be responsible for conceding double what he creates...

My point is we judge for ourselves from what we see in our team...over a proper period of time. I'm not convinced by him yet either, just think it too early to write him off.

Chief scouts are usually paid a wage but rarely scouts. It is remarkable that many clubs invest so little in scouting and yet they are so heavily reliant upon the quality of signings. Clubs will pay peanuts (or nothing) to scouts and yet pay a lot of money to agents.

Another thing to consider - how many people can afford (the time and financially) to work in a job driving around the country to matches being paid about 40p per mile and a complimentary ticket?

I'm a big fan of pirate, who's recommendations are brilliant and breadth of knowledge is on point.
However, I don't think Widds has actually done that poorly... JCH single-handedly kept us up last year, Ogogo is a solid addition and Davies looks on point in terms of the Coventry lads. Mark Little is a fantastic signing on paper etc.

We need to get a grip here guys....
Love Pirates analysis of players but truly we must get behind this group of players and management team better .... myself included.
Yes our loyalty is being tested but if we don’t stand tall now we are no better than the Red half of the City.
Widdrington and GC will be doing their best I’m sure... it’s all we have so we must support them more please.

i think you’ll find that many lower league clubs pay something like £10,000 a year for a detailed breakdown of how teams and players performed in any particular match. Each CD is broken down by ex professional footballers. There is a company called Scout7 that specialise in this field. There are others but I don’t know the names. I would imagine that scouts have become obsolete. This part of the game is unrecognisable from years past.

You still need eyes and ears on the ground to see what data and video analysis from scout7 and Wyscout etc can't pick up on. Body language/temperament and other off the ball stuff for example. Those companies also won't be available for certain games in non-league to pick up untapped gems.
