Genuinely think Taylor could be in trouble because he’s the type of bloke who will score and shh the Blackthorn end. Hopefully he isn’t that stupid

Stupid thread, let me make it easier for you, your missus has an affair with a bloke at work or your best mate, which would upset you the most? You don’t sign for your City rivals and you don’t go with your best mates bird or wife. Payne is no different to a Mark Wright to me, Ijah Andersen, O’Toole......we loved Taylor, proper hero worship, we backed him when Oxford fans abused him against us and he went to the sh**, unforgivable like doing the above. Just out of interest roady, what would you call such a fellow? Just for reference like.

Anyone who claps Taylor would 100% let their neighbour shag their Mrs!

Payne deserves to be booed. He didn't want to be here, didn't try when he was here, abuser fans, went AWOL the night before a game, played a big part in getting one of our best ever managers the sack and generally disrespected us, the people who paid his wages. Taylor doesn't deserve the abuse because he was an integral part of our rise from non league. If it wasn't for his efforts, we might still be complaining about our performances against Barrow...or worse. As it is, we're complaining about being poor against Coventry. I know what I prefer. Taylor will undoubtedly get abused horribly if he is there on Saturday. I hope he isn't and that we can just move on from this nonsense.
Are you seriously saying we should be applauding Taylor as we would the likes of Lambert or Bodin?

I think you're missing a pretty big detail with one of them... No, I don’t think so. I covered the fact that he left us for city in a deal that saw him more than treble his wage. I don’t know about you, but I’d bite anyone’s hand off for that ffs. “then more than trebled his wage” How did that cover he went to Bristol City specifically? You deliberately left that out. People act like we owe him something for what he did with us and it drives me mad. We paid the bloke and we both mutually benefitted from each other. We applauded and celebrated in our dual success. Then he went to Bristol City. He knew what he was doing. He made his choice. He is here to score, beat us and try to wind us up about it (like he’s been doing with his GIFs) make no doubt about it. He deserves the atmosphere he will get.

Jesus. It's a game of football. Get a grip!
That's something my missus would say, and I don't listen to her either...
Made me laugh, brilliant and true. Anyone who says it’s just a game of football doesn’t watch the same game of football as 90% of us..........the the Argies, the Turks, Greeks who riot every week, the hatred between Liverpool and United, the Old Firm. Yes it’s a game of football which is tribal, not many do what Taylor did, Andy Cole from Newcastle to United can’t touch this, Sol Campbell and Taylor car share.

Very similar to my own view, Payne underperformed, threw his toys out the pram when dropped and dissed both the club and its fans when making a sideways career move. If he gets on the pitch and is barracked I have no problems joining in. Difficult for the partisan fan to disregard the fact that MT moved across the city and the sordid nature of how the release clause happened to become known by our neighbours but...apart from the fact he gave 100% in a Rovers shirt and played a part in two promotions he also did not walk away for nothing in the summer and ensured we got half a season out of him and a transfer fee as well. When he left he went to a club that has invested in developing a premiership ready stadium, not just talked about it, he joined a club that was able to spend big on transfer fees and turn some players (Kodja, Reid, Kelly, Flint and Webster) into talented assets generating major transfer receipts. All of this is attractive to a player in his mid twenties getting one shot at rising above L1 and significantly bettering his wages at the same time. It was a gamble he couldn’t turn down. Who would not want a shot at the big prize whoever was offering it? After all he never was a Rovers fan! It it may be that ultimately L1 is his ceiling and that gamble failed for him as he has had to look elsewhere for regular football but for me that is “punishment” enough for him. I’m certain he’ll get a hot reception but I for one will not take part in it.

Hopefully he isn’t that stupid Yeah and if he does and any fans kick off then he should be punished too. Not justifying idiotic behaviour but if Taylor entices or antagonizes the fans then I can't say I'll feel sorry for him.

Yes it’s a game of football which is tribal, not many do what Taylor did, Andy Cole from Newcastle to United can’t touch this, Sol Campbell and Taylor car share. It is tribal. I get that. In fact, that's part of football's appeal. But at the end of the day, we're still talking about a player who moved to a higher division and probably trebled his wages. Sorry not to join in with the tribe on this, but I can't criticise him for doing something most on here would do in the same situation. I may not agree with it, but of course I do understand the anger. But why is it that you're prepared to ignore everything he did for us? Would you rather he hadn't scored 60 in 120 or so? Would you accept playing Wrexham, Fylde etc now? Because without Taylor's goals, that's potentially where we would still be. Isn't that the bigger picture here? I wish he hadn't gone there. Of course I do. If he'd gone to QPR or Derby etc, in the same circumstances, we'd be welcoming him back on Saturday. So just because it was City, we give him dogs abuse? Boo him as an ex-City player if you like by all means, but let's not forget his contribution to saving our club. If people must give him the ex-City player welcome, let's hope it stays at just that. I'm concerned some idiot will get on the pitch, which will cost us points and maybe worse. But then I think some on here would be happy with fines, points deduction, etc...so long as Taylor gets what their twisted minds think he deserves. Ludicrous.

Absolutely agree. Vilifying Taylor is facile and weak minded. He did brilliantly for us and chose to then take his career on. He is a human being playing football for a living. Some people need to grow up IMO. This febrile tribalism has parallels with the darker side of Homo sapiens.

No. I'm not saying that at all. But I am saying that I don't think he deserves this level of abuse either. On reflection, I think 'StuartCampbell' has it right. I can't abuse someone who gave so much to us in a Rovers shirt and played a large part in getting us to the level we're at now. I won't applaud either as to be honest, I'd probably be putting myself at risk by doing so. How sad a reflection of elements of our fanbase is that? Silence it is then.
