I just watched GC on You Tube post match, and one of his last sentences that he said was - what this group of players have done in the last year is nothing short of a miracle..
Am I the only one that thinks this is OTT..?
I know where we were in January (but given the size of our club we shouldn't had been bottom) and where we are today.
I know we have 3 tents that we somehow call stands, and have a shambles of a stadium. But our fanbase is still "at least" that of a top 10 L1 club.We are also far from not the worst payers in L1 either.
Only Sunderland,Ipswich,Portsmouth and maybe Coventry have a bigger fanbase then us given our City size.
I just dont like that mental thought creeping in saying that we are punching above our weight which is completley wrong.
Even in our shambles of a set up we should always be aiming to get into the championship and above,or whats the point?

Well we are 11th highest in average attendances in league one and unlike most of the football world nothing much happens at the ground on non match day's. We looked doomed when coughlan took over but we stayed up. I dislike the mind numbing aimless long ball football we play under the current manager but he has organised the team and we are effective when our opponents have the ball.

Maybe a bit ott. But we are doing better than i expected. If we were to get promoted then that is when them sort of comments would become valid. Anyway i like the Manager. Apart from him playing 1 player week in-week out who is just not good enough.

Just aligning the expectations so we don't get ahead of ourselves.

Avg Atts does not mean how big a clubs fanbase is. Avg gates depends upon alot.Be it results, investment, stadium,Level playing at etc..etc.. Im saying of the clubs at L1 level today only Sunderland,Ipswich,Portsmouth and maybe Cov City have a bigger fanbase then us.

There is potential at rovers but in fairness to coughlan he has managed the club at a time when there is no sign of any off the field progress and we were in dire straights playing wise when he took over.

If someone had told me in November last year when we were bottom of the league cut adrift by four points that in about a years time we’d still be in league 1 and 4th in the league and unbeaten at home half way through October I’d have laughed my head off. It’s not a miracle but he’s done brilliantly. Shouldn’t have had Nichols on pens today though. If we make the play offs this season it’ll be on a par with when the likes of Scunthorpe or Shrewsbury have made the league 1 top six, not a miracle but a bloody good achievement. I think we’ll finish around mid table.

I always try to look at it as if I were a fan of a different league 1 side and if I were then I would probably say we're about 4/5 positions above where I would expect. Most national bookies/papers tip to be pretty much a mid-table team and we're a couple places above, not too much of a 'miracle'.

He has to praise his team's efforts for the past month, they are certainly exceeding my expectations for the season so far. Hopefully they can keep it up.
We will lose a few on the way, but if we continue in same vein as we have performed in the first quarter we will be alright.
My concerns are more with everything/nothing that seems to be going on off the field..

I make no secret that I thought the recruitment was crap and not befitting of a team with our attendances (if you use the OP’s judgment that home attendance = spending power = league position).
But to have us in 4th was absolutely working miracles really. I think people may be getting carried away off the back of that though as looking at the wins we have had most have been against the poorer sides. We’re bound to have a run soon where we play mostly teams around or above us and that will help to “smooth out” our real position in the table. If we’re still in the play off places at Christmas then it really will be nothing less than a miraculous job by GC, ably assisted in no small measure by JCH.

If we are in the top 6 come May I still wont call it a miracle for our club.It will be a hell of a job done by GC and the team, but not miraculous for our club. We are a L1 club that have only 3/4 clubs bigger than us in terms of fanbases. We should be aiming and competing against the rest of L1 aside from them.

It seems pedantic to highlight the word 'miracle' in GC's interview. Give the bloke a chance. It is just of turn of phrase rather than a claim to an actual 'miracle' as such.
GC has done a very good job so far considering the mess he inherited, the limited budget and limited time to make changes and injuries to J C-H etc.
I think his interviews are very good and honest.

I agree. Given the perceived state of the club on and off the field prior to the start of the new season (no direction, haemorrhaging cash, budget cuts etc) then many on this forum - and me included, would have taken 20th at the end of the season. A long way to go, for sure, but we’re well ahead of schedule for that goal so there’s no need to throw any toys out of the pram because we lost a difficult away fixture. Looking forward to Tuesday.

Yup, Bolton and Portsmouth both there for the taking, we need to forget that these clubs once played in the premiership, they are not those clubs anymore. We must win at least one of the games, 4 points would be be lovely, no reason why we couldn't get all 6.

I agree about his interviews and the job he has done The club and some of our supporters just seem to down play what we could do as a club. Thats why I highlighted his comments in this post.
