Yes. The City Council put in £50M to get it built in the first place, and then circa £20-£25M to convert it into a Football Stadium. So, Manchester City Council chucked in the region of £75M to get it built to how it looks now, while Man City only put in about £20M. So City Councils do fund the majority or part of the amounts needed to build stadiums. Certainly in forward thinking ones anyway. This would be fought tooth and nail by Lansdown and ratepayers who think the Council should spend money on better things than underpinning a commercial enterprise that is supported by less than 1% of the population of greater Bristol. Manchester is forward thinking, they have a joined up public transport system, Arenas, and everything a modern major city should have. Btristol does not, so if Rees tries to pull this stroke he will commit the Council to millions in legal fees and have the Ombudsman making him bend over to carefully check every cavity of his. Don't forget that he has the ultimate say in what happens in Bristol ..... and is up for re-election next year.....

Just for the complete maths Sport England put in £77m for the initial build. Interestingly the stadium was part of a wider regeneration of Eastlands which has parallels with the councils regeneration of St Phillips. Hopefully a good omen! Man C's stadium was built for the Commonwealth Games, the Alexander Stadium in Birmingham is being rebuilt at a similar cost for 2022, unless Bristol some how get the CW games in our life times then I can't see how we'll ever get similar funding. Although, hopefully, funding is in some place from somewhere if the developers are looking to buy the FM site, I wonder if BCC are prepared to give them at interest free loan to keep the club in Bristol?

Yes, the whole south Manchester project has been a large part of the vision behind the Manchester City owners putting so much money into the club. Perhaps the council did provide a lot of the funding but MCFC have since funded a lot of projects in the south Manchester area. The area now bears no resemblance for the run-down area of the 70s, 80s and 90s. Just imagine what our Community Trust could do with greater resources in terms of ground, pitches and facilities. Long way to go but perhaps it’s a positive thing that the mayor appears to have a vision of Bristol that includes BRFC. UTG!

The ugly reality is our football club haven't built a seated stand since 1959.Oh, that again. No they haven't (unless you could the small seasted stands that have been built in the last couple of years), but the club has purchased stands that were already built. I don't see the difference, personally.

I cannot see what landsdown has to complain about as he is a tax dodger living overseas Where's Dwane registered again remind me and how much do the AQ's pay the UK government in tax ? I think Lansdown's a smug f**ker but like it or not his business employed over 1,000 tax payers some of whom are no doubt gas, paid millions in business rates and I daresay he paid a few bob to HMRC himself. He should complain as should Bristol ratepayers if Rees spunks millions to help out what is supposed to be a commercial enterprise that is patently not supported by many Bristolians. We have hundreds of people sleeping rough and the worst public transport system of any major UK city. We also need more police on the streets and he could divert money in that direction. Redevelop St Philips by all means but blinkers off, what would 90% of Bristolians actually gain from a football stadium occupied by Rovers ? As for the Duke of Guernsey, also remember that everyone BUT BRFC was behind the world cup bid so he's hardly likely to feel warm towards us is he ? A few nimby's scuppered a perfectly reasonable stadium plan in Ashton Vale funded by private money so what do you think will happen in this instance? As for the comment before by HG about Rees electioneering, this is politiical suicide and he will be swept out of office anyway and may actually lose many of the new Bristolians who love him but hate football. Sorry and all that but its a Dam disgrace if it goes as some think it will.

He’s residing in Guernsey for no other reason than to evade paying his whack here. Dwayne sports aren’t British so slightly different. The Ashton Vale stadium he wanted to build piggybacking on the back of a World Cup bid was laughable. It was patently obvious that England didn’t have a hope in hell of winning that bid and it was just a cynical attempt to ride rough shod so he could get his wish,

I think it's a little reach to compare any potential new Rovers stadium to a Commonwealth Games Stadium built with a legacy plan...

If the funding was not an issue to build the UWE then we should be in a position to build a stadium at a different location if the terms are favourable. The trouble is we are constantly playing the victim. Lansdown, the Media, the council are all against us.

The council haven't turned down a planning application for decades, it's our own fault we haven't built. Odd that the two other sports clubs with their own grounds in the city have significantly redeveloped in the last decade, we've built a new tent.

Fruit Market if part funded by ratepayers is different gravy entirely. Lansdown gets his wish anyway with Ashton Vale he gets a comparitively swift return on his investment for residential use (plus social housing so I expect the residents of Ashton Vale didn't expect that), plus he has a redeveloped Ashton Gate and perhaps that was his plan all along because he will get planning for everything he requires in BS3 because the council has no reason to resist it. Dwane Sports is owned by the AQ's as is BRFC. BRFC pays tax on any profit to HMRC. AQ's choice to go offshore with Dwane so they are no different whatsoever to Lansdown, and incidentally the holding company for the other lot is registered in the UK so why not Dwane ? - to avoid paying any tax like Lansdown. This holier than thou stuff make me laugh .

Out of interest how much profit have BRFC made under the Dwane banner so far in your estimation?

There's a difference if those stands can be assembled with a bit of gaffer tape and string. Ok, well ignoring the tents, the club did purchase a number of stands - a whole stadium's worth, in fact. What's the difference bwetween buying a ready-made stadium, and buiding one yourself?

What's the difference bwetween buying a ready-made stadium, and buiding one yourself? Yes, well done to the previous board for doing so. However, they can be criticised for not seizing the opportunity that fell into their lap and helping drive the club forward. Instead we spunked a load of money on wages and a promotion bid that never came to fruition and tumbled down the league ending up scrapping against relegation to the Conference for a 4/5 year period. So, that was fun.
