If you can’t support Tom Nichols from the terracing than just shut the F##k up and keep the abuse for when we play that shlt from BS3. Anyway on my way to Shrewsbury soon and whoever’s wearing the quarters I’ll be supporting UTG.

Strike partner? That made I laugh. EP at it again :-). If GC seriously believes that Nichols' lack of confidence is due to abuse from the terraces then he should be looking for another career. Proper strikers don't have to run their socks off to do their job because it comes naturally and they use criticism from the terraces to spur them on when they're going through a goal drought. Nichols isn't going through a goal drought, he's simply not a natural striker or strike partner. I thought DC was stubborn but GC has added a new dimension to the word mulish. Looks like he wants a convenient scapegoat if he has to move him on in January.

You say that, but you have no idea what his contract says. He could just be in the team to set up chances for his team mates, in which case he's doing his job. That would be the weirdest contract ever if it specified what his job role is. Like scoring goals, wouldn't that be the same thing?

Quite simple, any one who puts on the Quarters and puts in the effort deserves our support ,we all have our favourites and surely not all the coaches who think he is worthy of selection can be wrong can they? and his team mates seem to value his contribution, I have seen him have outstanding games and some indifferent ones , the coaches can't be picking him for his goal scoring so one or two others have to step up to the plate in that department, hope he can win over the doubters so we can all get behind a team which is far exceeding our expectations, up the Rovers! JCH speaks very passionately about the situation and the club which is great to hear!

JCH speaks very passionately about the situation and the club which is great to hear! I hear that he is excellent in training, and that is probably what gets him in the team/squad, with both DC & GC. I think his confidence is obviously low due to his goal scoring tally in games, and I don’t think he will ever be prolific but over the course of this season at least, you can’t fault his effort. I would really like to see GC give him a run in midfield or just behind a front two, perhaps out wide and put Sercombe centre midfield, but I don’t think that would be GC’s style of play & like it or not whatever he is doing, it’s keeping us at the right end of the table. Nice to hear JCH views, who knows better the situation better than us, you never know if TN can start chipping in we could have Smash ‘n Grab Mk2 on our hands, but in the meantime I will just settle for Smash UTG

Plus he still gets to link up with his new gaming mate JCH!

He was very well supported in his first season. He was pretty well supported in his second. Its really only recently that hes been getting a bit of grief. I'd say we have been more patient and supportive than most fans. And what has that support yielded thus far? The sum total of f**k all.
Exactly this, good post Hugo.
Last season Will Nightingale scored as many league goals for us as Tom did, and Will Nightingale has never played for us!
Apart from lack of goals, any promise he has ever shown before seems to have now deserted him completely.
He has had 1 assist this season according to this website League One Assists - what a baller...

Most of you know i'm a great believer in Sir Tom and have taken tons of abuse both on here and from "fellow" supporters in the East Terrace, But watch this boys game and he is so much better than his 2 fellow strikers both off and on the ball and i'm sure with the right encouragement from you lot he will start banging them in BIGTIME With respect, how can you say this after his record here in the last 2 and a half years? His scoring record vs games played is a club worst for a striker... To suggest anything else is done with just blind hope! Its not like Tom has a past and proven record of scoring 20 goals per year and is just through a rough period this term. Toms has had more encouragement than any other striker that I can remember at this club - by FAR. His overall play is decent, not great but decent and he works hard. But he is not a finisher. I can see what JCH is saying, but why read Social media or on here in the first place?

Like scoring goals, wouldn't that be the same thing? Not really. You're saying that he's paid to score goals, is that right? If so, you have no proof that his contract says that. The most it will mention is a goal bonus, and he's obviously not getting paid that, so he's definitely doing what he's getting paid to do.

And you have no proof that his contract says anything else! You're the one who brought up his contract and what's written in it.

Answer me this, why did we pay £360k for him? You're the one saying he's not doing what he's paid to do. Any transfer fee we paid Peterborough for him was what DC decided he was worth at the time. It has nothing to do with whether he's doing his job. I like a lot of people have had enough with this constant knocking of our players all of the time. We're top half of the league just behind the play offs, with a team a lot of people tipped to get relegated. Tom Nichols is part of that, and I personally thank him for all he brings to the team.

Answer me this, why did we pay £360k for him? We had Marcus Stewart back then who had worked with him at Exeter when he was banging in goals. Only the season before he had finished Peterborough’s top scorer. On face value it looked like a good deal at the time.
