A dreadful performance all round. Very worrying, even taking injuries into consideration. One shot on target at home tells us we have major issues. Barrett looks overweight/unfit but hopefully some game time will sharpen him up as he clearly has something about him. JCH is just not at the races at all, even given the lack of service and support he received. Looked very disheartened. At present I cannot see where the next win will come. Barrett had weight problems at Reading from what I've read on the internet but so did Lambert and look how he improved with fitness and weight-loss.

Why would his weight drop in a L1 club with poor training facilities v one with a Championship set up? At least Lambert step up a level, then another one when he left us.

From the little I've read his eating relates to mood but who knows it's just web-talk.

JCH aint fit(or is lazy) in my opinion. If he is prepared to work as hard as Devon White, to close people down instead of pointing, opposition teams wouldn't feel so comfortable. Definitely not lazy. It is pretty obvious that he is still struggling with a calf injury, but playing through it.
We resorted to long balls up to him again and little more, which paid little dividend yesterday.
We played a lot less long balls to him yesterday and have generally played a lot less long balls to him since Garner arrived which is a major part of why we haven’t won in 6 games. We got to where we were in the league by playing direct to JCH when he was fit or the same direct high tempo but a bit more on the deck when he wasn’t fit. We didn’t lose yesterday because we played a couple of high balls to JCH. We lost yesterday because the players most of the time looked like they weren’t bothered , our midfield was too deep to play our way up the pitch , we’ve got lots of injuries , I could go on. One things for sure, if you are going to go long and direct to a target man then you have to have to have a strike partner and get other players around him for support. But we didn’t play direct yesterday anyway mostly and when we did get it to JCH he had very little support. If Nichols leaves I think Reilly could work because he’s very lively but also the midfield need to push up and look for the ball when we’re in possession whether we’re hitting it long or playing a slower build up.

Thanks for the write up Steve. Have to disagree with pushing onto Donny. If we'd done that they would have picked us off easily.
Also thought Mayenesye was excellent apart from the goal however I would argue that Holmes-Dennis losing his man (the goalscorer) didn't help. Was an odd descision to stick him in midfield when a change of shape was what was needed in my opinion.
Not much hope for Coventry on Tuesday. Nice big pitch and a Cov team bang in form. Could be a spanking

Could be a spanking Maybe Maher will get them up for it and we’ll play to our strengths. If that happens then it will most likely be a fairly even game.

It certainly will be interesting to see what he does and doesn't change for the game

I don't disagree that JCH is one of the best target men I can remember at Rovers. My meaning was that we offerred very little at all, other than the odd long ball up to JCH. Ironically we looked slightly more potent with Reilly and THD on, but we were a poor second best yesterday.
I couldn't understand why we let them have so much space yesterday. Doncaster, by contrast closed us down with a vengence and crucially passed the ball very well. It could have been far worse that 2-0

Maher's post match interview refers to a "technical issue" causing the the front midfield two to drop too deep in the first half, so basically Hargreaves and Barrett didn't have a clue what they were doing, I guess that's not surprising given their lack of 1st team football.

Coz he might feel like he might get a decent run in the team.
