tbh imo we simply had better players in the 70s. Rose tinted glasses mate - today’s game and players are far removed from those days We were a top Div 2/Div 1 (now Championship) side for most of the 70's so it's hardly tinted glasses, a few legends as well from that era!! Although I can still name virtually every regular player form the 70's promotion side so we hardly signed that many new players to worry about!

How do you donate pre tax cash flow without attracting the interest of HMRC? Enquiring minds need to know 🤔 I assume he just offsets his losses against tax, there must be some reason they get involved in football! Corporately, perhaps. Depends how shareholding is structured.

Meanwhile Salford have just signed Bruno Andrade from Lincoln How they get round the ffp Their billionaire owner is probably happy to write off "donatations" rather than pay tax on his earnings. I'm hoping for a Salford v Accrington EFL Trophy Final when less than 5,000 fans turn up! As well as Peter Lim who's net worth is roughly £2.5B, they also have David Beckham circa £450M(whose wealth is larger than the Al-Qadi's), and his other Multi Millionaire mates Ryan Giggs, Gary and Phil Neville, Paul Scholes and Nicky Butt who all have 10% shares in the club. Plenty of loop holes and plenty of "Donations" for them to easily get around it.

Not sure if today’s players smoke and Drink like they did in 70’s - even players from that time appreciate that the game has changed and players today are faster and stronger

Engaged to Alexandra Burke apparently. Maybe she can sing at half time! I think she binned him and is with a Hull City player now. Look forward to seeing him in the quarters. Think you're getting your Josh Ginnelly's confused. There's only 2 Josh Ginnelly's

You also have to balance things by wondering how many of today's players would simply not be brave enough to stand up to the tackling and brutality of football in the 70's. There is no doubt at all that our best team was bert tanns team from the 1950's which nearly got into the top division. Just like the 1966 world cup winners until an england team wins that cup again they remain the main men.

As has been said previously, it does feel like a bit of a plan coming together. It's a reassuring feeling.
If we get this new lad in as well (still only half way through the transfer window) it's interesting to think what has changed since the summer when these sorts of players were arguably needed just as much.
Has BG been influential in targeting these players? Or has Widdrington been pushing for these players before but only now been given the green light? Is the new style (coming to a pitch near you soon) easier to sell to potential signings? Or are the purse strings being loosened?
I've no idea. Fun to speculate though init.
In regards to Ginnelly, who I know nothing about. I'm all for more new wingers and direct players. They'll get me more excited than Bennett ever will.

Well, until they invent a magic mmachine we will never know ! of course players would benefit from today's techniques and that's my point. Today's players are stronger and fitter. As for best teams,we all have an opinion but I was talking about players not teams

Did he pass the medical then?
Few laps around the tent, pick up 50 fox poo’s in under 10 minutes, 100 press ups in the car park and you’re in son.

This forum is awful lately. Tonnes of new posters propping up with horrendous attitudes, need piping down a peg or they can head back to Facebook... On topic: great signing on paper for me, hope we pull it off. I'm beginning to look a saint on here. Now, now GGMI. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here...
