If it happens during the close season there is a clear division and a chance for Garner to put his methods in place in time for a new season. This is really what the board should have done in the first place. Rocking the boat was in advisable given the position and form we were in, but to do so by appointing a guy with no experience and who has a reputation for wanting to play a totally different style was literally sheer lunacy. You bring someone like that in during the summer not parachute them into the middle of a promotion push. I don't see it mate. Imagine if Warnock took over and improved things immeasurably? Who is going to welcome back an untested manager in Ben Garner under those circumstanced? Close season or not, this fanbase wouldn't stand for it, and I can't imagine the players would be too thrilled either.

Anyone hear him on talksport this morning? Said 90% of management is about man management. Tactics and coaching aren't as important these day. Admittedly I think he was referring to prem players but this is my worry with Garner.

Admittedly I think he was referring to prem players but this is my worry with Garner. Also I would say it’s the inverse. Is Guardiola’s success founded simply on man management or a tactical philosophy? Coughlan’s success was almost certainly founded on man management so I would say that the lower down the pyramid you go simply having “an honest group of lads” becomes more important. You could argue that the “honest group of lads” approach got us two promotions under DC also.

He will never come here pointless thread amongst many pointless threads . Why?? He said he would go to any club, even league 2. As he just wants another 12 games to get to the 1500 milestone. So if Garner won't be available due a few months, it might suit him. Think he lives in Cornwall, so he's not going to get much closer to home. He wants a short term job, to get to that milestone, then he wants to retire. We could be the ideal job for him, at this stage.

He got a lot of teams promoted and rarely survived in the higher league, or continued at a club to establish a long track record.

With regard to Pep and Juergen, having the worlds best players has an impact. As far as the detail of coaching goes I’m not sure the players particularly understand what they’re talking about. Having watched a few of the fly on the wall documentaries the players seem to drift off when Pep gets his flip charts out.
