Mine would have been a game during the last season at Eastville. No idea who it was against or what the score was though, sadly.

Ipswich Town (1985? FA cup) v Port Vale ( early 90’s). Holloway scored one the Ipswich game, lost 2-1. Can’t remember what year port vale was. All I know was it was a massive terrace, the weather was horrible with no roof and we lost 2-0. Port vale away 2-0 was Nov 90.... Anyone struggling to remember then this resource is invaluable. I get hooked on it when I visit.... www.11v11.com/teams/bristol-rovers/What a fantastic site gregsy thank you Us v Tranmere 1969. Won 3-0. Went in the north stand seats with my dad and eldest brother. First away game was v Villa and I got lost. Can’t remember what year but I was only around 10 and it was very scary. Holt end skins.

First team game was v Watford in October 1965, a 1-1 draw. Prior to that though I had seen several reserve games and Bristol League Games at Eastville Yes well if we’re talking Rovers games at any level then I know my dad used to take me to Saturday afternoon reserve games (Football Combination) when I was four! I know (because he told me) that we won the first game by several goals and I was singing on the bus all the way home (to Knowle). He also told me that the first time I saw them lose there was a tear or two! The only reserve game I know I saw was against West Ham because my old man was banging on about their centre forward Clyde Best being a brilliant first team regular and then a lad named Stevie Grubb, who never made a first team appearance for us, kept him quiet all game. Saw the emerging talents of Peter Aitken, Jeff Coombes and Bryn Jones alongside fringe players Ken Ronaldson and Sandy Allan. Ronaldson hit the bar from the halfway line in one game...he’d have won something on soccer am if that had been around then! Think the keeper was called Biddell, although the following season Laurie Taylor had dropped down to the reserves as Dick Sheppard took over the first team gloves. We had a couple of players that we didn’t think would make it, a short centre half called Impey (right about that one) and a winger called Peter Higgins who surprisingly filled in for Jarman on several occasions and eventually cut out a decent career with Doncaster. Memory lane eh?
