Not the strongest argument in the world I'm about to make here, I'll admit, but when DC became our full-time manager back in the Conference, one of his first acts iirc was to transfer-list Harrison. He ended up not leaving, DC gave him a chance, and he went on to become our "super sub" that season and an important first team member the next two seasons. This doesn't really matter since Nichols is pretty much out the door already, but then again, so was Reilly for a while I just wonder what happens if Nichols calls BG's bluff and stays until the summer, is he really going to leave him sat in the stands on £3k or whatever a week? I couldn't tell you, to be honest. If I was the manager, I'd at least cut my losses and place him on the bench; certainly beats the other two alternatives

Calls his bluff??? Like we've had so many offers for him there's a realistic chance the bloke might move on? You seriously think any league club has bid for him on loan? He's going nowhere and not of his own volition.

I can’t see Nichols coming back now he’s been benched and subsequently dropped altogether by a manager who’s made no attempt to deny that he’s on the transfer list. I think some have forgotten that Nichols had been on a dreadful run of form prior to that and hasn’t been creating for JCH nor anyone else this season unlike last. I don’t think he’s awful but neither do I think he’s the answer to all our problems. Took us down, cried like a bitch and then turned on beast mode! Lol!

Another 45 minutes of no goals with JCH working hard and trying but still clearly missing his favourite strike partner.

I Voted For Kodos anyway you can get stats of results with/without TN? Would be interesting to see, as that is ultimately what matters, not his goal scoring record individually. I expect will take too long so don't worry if not. So, I've looked into this. Firstly, I've limited to just league starts and ignored cups/sub appearances. Also, it is worth bearing in mind that all of the numbers are based on aggregated opinions. Maybe it isn't too scientific, but wisdom of crowds and all that. These are the average ratings since Clarke-Harris' debut away at Southend last season.
| Overall average | Both Starting | Only one starting | Clarke-Harris | 6.50 | 7.00 | 6.01 | Nichols | 5.39 | 5.61 | 4.98 | Starting XI | 6.24 | 6.26 | 6.16 |
So, both players (as well as the team) are rated better when paired together than when not. But interestingly: Points per game: With one of them: 1.17 With both of them: 1.67 With neither of them: 2.00 Well we won't have either of them next season, so playoffs here we come..... Is that last stat right? Without either, we were on target for 92 points in a normal season?

Tom nichols is by far the most intelligent footballer we have.
How this manager is not getting more out of these great players I don't know! We have a fantastic squad of players and BG has just FUc*ed everything up.

GC has fuc*ed everything up by wanting to leave whilst under contract at a busy and crucial point of the season.
Fair enough the new manager should have been able to get more from the same players, but if GC had manned up and saw out the remaining 5/6 months of the season the apple cart would not have been upset in the first place.
Many things change behind the scenes when a manager and assistant leaves a club (particularly training) as well as the worry from the players over their future at the club. It's more than just one guy leaving and another taking over seamlessly.
As for Nichols he was one of the reasons DC failed in the end.

I've made my fortune and sold my business so enjoying retirement in my early 40's, but I have lived abroad away from my family in the past. If I didn't move abroad my family would probably not have the luxury of life they have today.
I hope for his sake GC doesn't spiral into oblivion for the sake of 150 odd miles, when he was on the brink of achieving something really special.

Fair play to you to have been so successful that you can afford to retire. I mean this honestly, but the club need someone with a bit of know how, business acumen and passion for the club. When, I get to 60-62, I might be able to be able to scrape into semi retirement and would love to help out one day a week at the club. Is this not something you (or others on the forum could - or would) like to do? If not for the FC, maybe helping the SC become more 21st century and appealing to younger fans and more relevant?

Although I have always kept my season ticket I don't get to many games these days and spend a lot of time abroad. I wouldn't say I have fallen out of love with the club but I certainly not as passionate about the club as I once was as I feel there is definitely a large gap between the fans and the football club.
Tom Gorringe is doing a very good job in trying to bridge this gap but its still miles apart from where it should be.
I am quite happy if the club or SC would like to contact me about any aspect of business but I wouldn't hold my breath as they are quite successful in their own right.
