Immature I know but I would love it (saying this Kevin Keegan style), love it if we pulled out of letting Rollin go to Coughlan at the last minute as a water take!

Oh well so much for the gloom and doom theorists re GC leaving as purse strings pulled tight and not being able to take the club any further. Great window that shows there is investment and a vision on the playing side by the board and we are not being left to rot and die

I think, loans are still possible aren’t they? Plus a per deal could be done if the “selling” club release the player and he becomes a free agent. Might be wrong. I still feel there is some movement in this squad to come.

I still feel there is some movement in this squad to come. No loans* allowed now. The only players that can be signed are free agents - and I think they had to be free agents before the window closed (although I could be wrong on that point). *Edit - apart from emergency goalkeeper loans I think

For me that makes the timing of GC's 'change of heart' even more galling as I could understand it more if he was told he would need to sell players to bring more in etc. Obviously that is not the case, unless Wael wanted him out and used that to give him a push?
He is a bigger wan*er that I though for not giving it another 5 months at least. Not much to ask considering he has spent over a decade in the south..

I'm wondering now, as things pan out, whether GC's 'vision' wasn't shared by Wael, TW, the Board etc etc. GC said he couldn't see where to take the club or words to that effect - it could be that his vison didn't fit with that of the owners, or that he genuinely had no vision. If BG was 'hovering' in the background as it seems with him being a free agent and the mutual interest between him and the club existed perhaps GC's exit was seen as a way to achieve what everyone wanted. Of course BG's reign has got off to a very poor start - with the family illness and him trying to change things too quickly (even though he said he wouldn't). Perhaps now, and I really hope, he can start to change us for the better. Of course it would have been good to do that from here with 6 or 7 more points on the board, but I am certainly feeling much more optimistic today.

Coughlin brought a spirit and a toughness. How often did we used to see teams out muscle us. He toughened them up and lets face it we knew we were unlikely to let 2 or more in. I like signing of the Crystal Palace lad and the lad from Reading, but why have we got all those loans in. We cannot play them all otherwise we will be mullered by league teams. An example is the lad from Derby. 16 minutes so far. Its like a different version of Clarke, too many players and not enough quality

Good post, although I would have imagined Wael and GC had a lot of talks when he first took the reigns from DC so its hard to imagine their views had differed so much in a year.
We can only judge BG with his own players which he now has quite a few of, so maybe we will start to see some improvement.
Shame really as instead of a promotion challenge we are now involved in what is almost like a pre-pre season. It's an opportunity missed given how wide open this league is, and I will always blame GC for that, not that he is some amazing manager but because he disrupted the squad at a critical time.

I do wonder if you're right regarding GC, perhaps his saying he didn't know how much further he could take the club was more about his shortcomings (in the eyes of the powers that be) than the club's. That said didn't we approach Nathan Jones before BG was appointed, in which case it's seems unlikely that BG was hovering in the background.

Apparently we agreed a fee with Mansfield but Rollin didn't want to go: www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/bristol-rovers-set-hand-defender-3803547Bristol Rovers are in contract talks with Rollin Menayese after former manager Graham Coughlan failed to sign him on deadline day. Bristol Live understands League Two Mansfield Town, who Coughlan quit Rovers for in December, agreed a fee with the Gas for the 22-year-old on Friday. But personal terms could not be agreed with the centre-half – who flourished in the finals weeks of Coughlan’s tenure – so he remained at the Mem. Menayese has not been included in Ben Garner’s match squad for the past three games, and the signing of Cian Harries on deadline day looks to have further limited his playing options. But with the Democratic Republic of Congo-born defender out of contract in the summer, Rovers are thrashing out a new deal. “Nobody has gone out, which we’re delighted with and we’re actually in the midst of discussing a new contract with Rollin because it’s up at the end of the season so that’s where we are,” Garner revealed after Saturday’s defeat to Coventry City. Menayese has played 18 games for Rovers this season, the most first-team action he has seen since joining from Weston-super-Mare in 2017. He was a pivotal part of Rovers’ back three in the unbeaten run before Christmas, playing a huge role in the backs-to-the-wall wins at Ipswich Town and Plymouth Argyle. But since the change of management, and the return of Tom Davies from injury, Menayese has had fewer opportunities in the blue and white quarters. Despite coming close to leaving in the final hour of the transfer window, with Rovers and Mansfield agreeing on a fee, it does not mean the club’s hierarchy wanted rid. Chief executive Martyn Starnes and Garner throughout the window stated the club would be “trading”, with every player having his price if clubs showed interest. And Rovers’ efforts to tie Menayese down to a new deal clearly indicate he is still in the plans of the manager, who believes the Gas are in a better place than when the window started. Garner added: “We’re happy with the squad that we’ve got now and it’s now about pushing on for the rest of the season, we need to get results, we need to get results quickly. “I’m giving everything, the staff are giving everything and the players are giving everything and I know the supporters will be disappointed in the run of results we’ve had. “I take full responsibility. I’ve had a difficult period myself when I first came in so it was tough for me not in terms of results but in terms of everything else that was going on in my life. “Since coming back in I’ve felt really confident about where we were going and I think we’ve had good signs this week about where we’re trying to go and what we’re trying to do but two points from nine is not a good enough return from what we’ve done, but we don’t want to be a disappointed dressing room.”

Do the club honestly expect him to sign a new deal after pretty much telling him he isn't needed, just to get a fee for him?
