Ian, David,
I feel extremely angry, upset, and let down by the reports of the racial abuse aimed at the Dartford Goalkeeper last night, and the inactivity of the Steward nearby.
I wonder how well trained and briefed the stewards are in dealing with incidents such as this? In my experience stewards at most grounds don't know how to react when anything happens, let alone disgraceful racial abuse. BRFC must address this and ensure stewards have a clear course of action to follow.
I understand that one steward can't act alone for reasons of personal safety and security, but there must be a well documented and practised course of action for them to follow when this sort of thing happens - otherwise what's the point of them being there?
Can you reassure me that this will be addressed urgently by a thorough review of procedures to ensure that this is not tolerated and any sign of racial (or any other exceptional) abuse results in appropriate prompt action when this sort of vile abuse occurs?
Apologies if you are not the correct people to address this issue. If this is the case, please could you pass this on to the appropriate person(s).
Thanks and Regards

Hi Rod - hope you don't mind me dragging your email out again. Just wondering if you ever got a reply? Or did I miss it?

Yes, sorry, I did. I sent the question on the 8th and got a reply on the 16th October from David Harper:
Rod
Thanks for your email.
The enquiry into this matter is still ongoing but I can reassure you that there is a procedure in place to deal with matters like this. I cannot comment further at this stage except to say that that there are several issues being investigated with the club, the police and the FA.
This club does not condone any form of racism but the actions of one individual has resulted in the clubs name being tarnished. We will continue to be proactive in our anti- racism campaigns and you will no doubt be aware that this coming Saturday we will be demonstrating a show of solidarity with a red card campaign as the teams take the field.
Thanks again for your email. I can assure you that racist issues form part of steward training and I will be taking steps to reinforce that training over the following weeks
Regards
David Harper
Safety Officer
It is reassuring that dealing with racism is part of the steward training and that it would be reinforced as David says. I was away with very limited web access when the email came back from David, not returning until five days later and so it slipped my mind to post it. I must admit I haven't heard anymore about either the individual or any investigation into the club over this incident.

Ok thanks for that. I wonder whether procedures were correctly followed in the Jason Brown case. He was making a complaint but the alleged offender was able to leave the scene without even his details being taken.
I suppose we shall never have a satisfactory conclusion to this.
