I think a lot of it comes down to luck. Yes, good scouts are important. But for every Jason Roberts, there are 5 Bernard Mensahs. Dortmund have an incredible system of building, selling and rebuilding. For me, it’s the rebuilding bit that we get wrong. How long did it take to replace Lambert? Did we ever replace him? I’d say the next proper goal scorer we had was Matty Taylor. Will Hoskins was good too.

That's the trouble developing players, they soon become someone else's and if you are lucky you stay in the same position in the league

And that is the reason we have only been in the championship twice in modern times. Sell your best players = no progress

And that is the reason we have only been in the championship twice in modern times. Sell your best players = no progress Everyone at this level sells their best players and all players have a price. There are probably only a handful of clubs in the world that couldn't be described as 'selling clubs'. Our job is to maximise our players value and replace them effectively when they do get sold on.

But surely the club can be run much, much more effectively?
Lack of communication, too many overpaid staff and players etc.
In the early share scheme period, I would guess there were more than 50% less office/catering/sales staff and they seemed to have much more productivity.
A club at our level need volunteers and the SC, Presidents club, Helpline and Young Pirates have saved (and earnt) the club millions.
The treatment of Keith Brookman, Screen Soccer, the YP and the SC shows something is clearly wrong with replacing loyal passionate volunteers, with paid employees who are are just going through the motions doing the bare minimum.
Hopefully MS and the powers that be will decide to be open and respectful and will think about using the best resources (either paid or volunteers) to do the best for the club. (not just themselves!)
Not sure if that will happen so as a start why not go for a pre match drink at the Mem, not the Welly - every little helps!

Bosman means that developing players and selling them is great in theory but rubbish in practice.

Not so many years ago, this was the Rovers Strategy and very successful it was Really, how much did we make from it? Which young nuggets are you thinking about? Our record on bringing young talent through has been absolutely shocking. To be considered a success, I would say that 3 players per season would need to establish themselves in the first team, or be sold on for a decent profit.

I think the Premier league have the "right" to poach young kids from the EFL? Am I correct?

We sold Holloway, Devon, Steve Yates (which GD said was the best deal he ever made!) One of our goalies went to arsenal I believe, Paul Randall to Stoke.

On another note. I had a dabble on Dortmund for the champions league the other week at 55/1. Unlikely but overpriced IMO. They have a very good teaem. Good first leg underdog win vs PSG. Haaland ha sjsut scored again today. Has an unbelievable record.

Wasn’t disappointed.

My mate is a Liverpool season ticket holder and has got me tickets on the kop for the 2nd leg. As a neutral it was a perfect 1st leg result for me and sets it up nicely.

Anfield has one of the best atmospheres in world football on European nights.
