The main differences are:
We turned all our disadvantages into advantages.
We showed strength in adversity.
We largely operated as a one.
Clubs were fearful of the atmosphere generated, lack of facilities, pitch that needed attention and their own insecurities of not being able to master them.
We entertained many big famous teams, West Ham and Barnsley apart, we were never humiliated.
As a footnote, I wonder how many other clubs would survive a decade playing in a different city so well and still be here to tell the tale?
Miracle, indeed..

EBay owe us a drink.... got my copy in the post today, only cost me £3 including postage, and its hardback, going to keep for holiday reading if the missus shuts up long enough for me to get started on it.

You'll enjoy it mate, the stories about eastville becoming a footpath during ww2, and Stanley Mathews playing for the army at twerton infront of 21000.... Its brilliant....

We could be forgiven for going out of business when we moved to Twerton but the amazing way the Directors, Management,Players and Fans responded was truly a miracle. What a fantastic video to watch. That would be good to have our players & manager watch now. Fortress Twerton and the indefatigable spirit in that team was a joy to be a part of.

To borrow a very famous phrase 'It was the best of time, it was the worst of times', or was it the other way round?, anyway i look back on our time at Twerton with great affection , it was astonishing what we achieved there, don't think the club has ever been so united before or since , when i read of the disharmony on here now it only emphasises how united we all were under the most trying of circumstances, its only now you realise just what we were up against and typical Rovers, we only go and turn it into one of the most successful periods in our history 'unbelievable Geoff' to use another not quite so famous quote! and while we are at it give that gong to the country's greatest ever striker, arise Sir Jimmy! The quote is correct but the book is the tale of 2 cities, we should petition to have it changed to a tale of 2 teams 😂. I never thought, not at that time, that I’d be looking back in it, with a longing for that same spirit. Fair play to all who played their parts, when we looked finished

Saw a copy in the Amnesty bookshop on Gloucester Road a day or so ago. Just inside on the left with the Local Interest books.

Met Ray at Twerton when I accompanied the ref v Brum and Ray took drink orders for after the game.As a true Bristolian he wrote down 4 Largers. Kingswood lad was Ray. Lived just down from the flowerpot and down the second left, which I forget the name. Great bloke and raconteur. The type you would be grateful of, if you were stuck somewhere. RIP. EDIT. I think I am mistaking him for Roy Dolling. Both great guys anyway. I know Roy was Kingswood but not sure of Ray. My apologies

The last I heard was on Twitter, maybe late 18 or 19 but he had celebrated his 81st birthday. I will see if I can find out with a quick search. Another great gas legend. EDIT in August 2019 he attended a Bristol Rovers former players association night so I’m hopeful that the big man is still around. He was the raconteur and Kingswood man. He played a big part in youth teams, alongside Colin Dobson and other, more contemporary players. Had a lovely daughter too.
